About the role

The Site SQSE Technologist will be based in the Safety, Quality, Security & Environment team at pladis. The term SQSE is used to define activities relating to Food Safety, Health & Safety, Product Quality, Environment, Hygiene and Pest Control.

As Site SQSE Technologist, you will support the Site Compliance/SQSE Manager (SCM) and work with the Site Advisor or Manager to deliver compliance to legal requirements and to pladis standards of food safety, quality, hygiene, pest control, health, safety & environmental standards. You will do this through involvement of site activities, monitoring, auditing and providing advice.

You will coordinate the compliance elements of raw material intake (such as ingredients and packaging) and will act as a key contact for suppliers. You will also support the site in managing complaints, accidents, issue and incident prevention and investigations. You will implement continuous improvements to the systems, processes and standards as directed by the SCM.

This is a Level 3 Apprenticeship that will run for 30 months. Apprentices are required to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Food Technology qualification prior to taking the end-point assessment for the apprenticeship.

Key accountabilities

  • You will maintain a good knowledge of the site and its operations, with a clear focus on food safety, hygiene, health and safety, environment and quality.
  • You will support the site teams in ensuring compliance to appropriate food safety and health, safety and environment operating standards.
  • You will carry out internal site SQSE audits and assist in preparing the site for central & external accreditation audits.
  • You will ensure all relevant documentation and site systems are in line with SQSE standards and all changes are effectively communicated.
  • You will coordinate the compliance elements of raw material intake, including arrangements for testing, documentation, traceability and supplier review.
  • You will coordinate pest control, calibration, sample analysis and quality/environmental activity.
  • You will have an active role in issue, incident and accident investigations and resolutions.
  • You will carry out appropriate SQSE training of site manufacturing teams.

Location and Salary

This role will be based in Jacob’s Liverpool in Year 1, McVitie’s Manchester in Year 2, with Year 3 to be confirmed.

The starting salary is £17,500 with a joining bonus of £1,000 to help you prepare for the role, which includes moving and other expenses. This would need to be repaid should you decide to leave within 12 months of the programme.
