MANSON UNIT (MU)

The MU is a multi-disciplinary medical team within MSF UK and is the London based part of the PHD. We aim to improve the quality of MSF’s medical programmes worldwide, so the best possible care is delivered to our patients.

The MU is a team of 30 comprised of medical doctors and specialists in infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, health information systems, epidemiology, geographical information systems, medical editing and research communication. We also have a clinical trial team working towards improved treatments for patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis. We provide direct support to our field programmes through specialist advice on medical issues, implementing new ways of working, supporting research studies and outbreak response.

JOB PURPOSE

This position will drive forward the AMR dossier within Operational Centre Amsterdam (OCA) by primarily coordinating the planning, monitoring, communication and accountability of AMR medical operational activities and research. This will set the foundations for OCA future policy and advocacy work related to AMR. The purpose of the job is to bring together the various medical and non-medical specialists related to AMR from within OCA, to:

  • facilitate implementation of the AMR functional strategy, coordinating the three pillars against antibiotic resistance (ABR) and collaborating with the Chronic and Infectious Diseases team in their strategies against TB, HIV, and Malaria resistance, coherence, and critical analysis.
  • strengthen and further establish the wider MSF and field networking including on the relevant AMR international platforms. The post-holder would work with actors across the MSF movement as well as external actors / initiatives in the global health and humanitarian sector, including acting as primary representative for MSF towards relevant actors. A key part of the role is to bring to MSF the analysis of the external environment related to AMR, to challenge and stimulate MSF on the development of their policies and advocacy strategies.
  • Act as the focal person within OCA for AMR, from different sources and specialties (HIV, TB, Malaria); together to inform policy, advocate for change and to achieve the OCA AMR objectives.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Significant field experience with MSF (or equivalent) in a management position.
  • Medical Degree, Para-Medical Degree or Masters’ degree in a health-related field.
  • Knowledge/experience of current issues relating to AMR.
  • Knowledge/experience of current issues relating to global health, access to medicines and healthcare.
  • Proven representation and negotiation skills combined with ability to act as a spokesperson.
  • Fluency in English
  • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Sharepoint).
  • Strong communication skills, able to present complex topics in a clear and accessible manner.
