BECOME PART OF A GLOBAL MHPSS COLLABORATIVE

Hosted by Save the Children Denmark – a member of one of the world’s leading child rights-based organizations – the MHPSS Collaborative is a global platform for MHPSS research, innovation, learning and advocacy. We build connections, knowledge and new ways of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children, youth and families in adversity by connecting key academic and various humanitarian actors with local civil society to support quality MHPSS programmes at scale. Based upon meaningful partnerships and local realities and solutions, the Collaborative works to:

  • Convene key stakeholders local to global for MHPSS sharing, exchange, learning and innovation.
  • Develop and share knowledge to ensure that child and family evidence-informed child and family MHPSS interventions and knowledge are widely accessible and available for frontline stakeholders.
  • Champion MHPSS as lifesaving for children and families through evidence-based advocacy.
  • Address emerging challenges by identifying and bringing to focus emerging critical issues with tangible guidance and actions to address MHPSS needs of children, youth and families in adversity.

As Advocacy and Communications Advisor, you will join a team of seven to play an important role the positioning of the Collaborative as a key partner for MHPSS policy makers, practitioners and researchers working on evidence-based MHPSS for children, youth and families in adversity.

You will lead on operationalizing the MHPSS Collaborative communications and advocacy strategy supporting priority thematic areas and products and engaging in key local and global MHPSS communication and advocacy moments.

Your responsibilities will fall into four overarching categories:

1) Strategic leadership – you will lead on the communications and advocacy strategy and design related campaigns for the MHPSS Collaborative to broaden the visibility and reach, while articulating key messages for policy influencing, and supporting the development of high value proposals.

2) Advocacy – you will establish and track the development of strategic relationships in collaboration with the Director and Thematic Advisors, draft briefs and products, coach team members on preparation of messages and presentations for advocacy and speaking events.

3) Communications – you will use your creative skills to manage the MHPSS Collaborative’s website, use analytics to monitor the reach and audience of the MHPSS Collaborative across communications channels and utilize the data to inform decision making and the monthly communication plan with the team, with a focus on disseminating key products, research and messages on social media channels and other mediums,

4) Management – you will manage and track communication and advocacy budgets and expenses, coordinate online and in-person meetings/consultations/conferences and support the with advocacy and communications tasks and competency development as needed.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to support global and regional MHPSS events and campaigns across the year, including the World Mental Health Summit, the Nordic MHPSS Conference and those of the Global Mental Health Action Network.

Your personal and professional profile experience includes:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in non-profit communications, advocacy and/or donor relations, with a background in humanitarian action and development cooperation
  • Experience in advocating and communicating on issues related to child, youth and family mental health and psychosocial wellbeing preferred
  • Knowledge of advocacy and communications best practices, techniques, processes, monitoring and evaluation
  • Ability to address a range of issues in the context of humanitarian action, political developments, public attitudes and local conditions
  • Ability to establish and maintain strategic and productive relationships and convene a diverse range of stakeholders for joint advocacy initiatives
  • Aptitude for working with youth led organizations and networks
  • Ability to rapidly analyze and integrate diverse information from varied sources and draw out key messages
  • Ability to produce a variety of written and visual communications products in a clear, concise style
  • Ability to conceptualize, design and implement information or social media campaigns
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate insights to stakeholders, persuade, influence and adapt communication style to different situations and audiences
  • Is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results
  • Takes responsibility for building the teams’ competencies in advocacy and communication skills as appropriate

You will be employed on a permanent Danish national contract, the details of which will be negotiated with the successful candidate. You will be expected to be based in Copenhagen and work primarily office based with quite flexible hours and working from home days.
