Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Hybrid working model where you will be required to attend the office for a minimum of 2 days per week with the option to work remotely for the remaining 3 days per week.)

Overview of Role

Crisis Action is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Advocacy and Campaigns Manager (ACM) to lead our work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The ACM will play a critical role in developing and implementing impactful campaigns to protect civilians in armed conflicts, working closely with the African Union and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead strategic advocacy and campaigns around the African Union and its related institutions. This will involve working with partners to identify key opportunities, develop innovative campaign strategies, and manage a range of campaign activities, including direct policymaker advocacy, creative public campaigning, media work, and mass mobilization.
  • Monitor conflict developments and inform Crisis Action’s global advocacy strategy. The ACM will need to have a deep understanding of the political and security landscape in Africa and be able to identify and analyse emerging crises. They will also need to be able to translate this knowledge into actionable recommendations for Crisis Action’s global campaign teams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Addis Ababa. This includes developing relationships with policymakers at the African Union and other Addis-based institutions, as well as with civil society partners, journalists, and other key thought leaders.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of Crisis Action’s Addis Ababa office and globally. The ACM will be a key member of the Crisis Action team and will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of our overall strategy.

Qualifications

A minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in advocacy and campaigning, with a focus on Africa.
  • Deep understanding of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and how they apply in situations of armed conflict.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and implementing effective advocacy and campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to develop and deliver compelling presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Experience in advocacy and campaign planning and execution.
  • A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience in developing and executing creative campaigns.
  • Strong social media skills and experience in working with the media.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to collect, analyse, and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • The ability to identify and assess emerging trends and risks for campaign and advocacy initiatives.
  • Strong relationships with key stakeholders in Addis Ababa, including policymakers at the African. Union and other Addis-based institutions, as well as with civil society organisations, journalists, and other key influencers.
  • Fluency in English and French (preferred)
