DRS is looking for an Accounting Officer, to work for a non-profit organization developing trend-setting impulses for the fundamental questions of a sustainable economy.

Title: Accounting Officer

Location: Germany

Start date: As soon as possible

Contract duration: 1-year starting contract offer, renewable

What is the role about

The position works closely with the Executive Director and other internal stakeholders, overseeing regular accounting processes and strategic financial issues. After joining us as a non-profit organisation, you will be able to steadily expand your area of responsibility while having opportunities for further training in accounting.

You will work in collaboration with your colleagues on a variety of exciting and challenging tasks, including:

  • Management of the general accounting and independent supervision of the processing of the
  • Payment transactions, invoicing, and monitoring of incoming payments
  • Clarification of tax matters in cooperation with external tax advisors
  • Preparation of payrolls in our software, taking into account social security issues
  • Management of projects including accounting and cost center optimization
  • Annual balance sheet prepared for the preparation of the annual financial statements for tax advice
  • Work closely with other Institute staff to correct and implement the relevant system and financial processes.

Whom we are looking for

Value orientation, sustainability, agility, personal responsibility, and flat hierarchies are the core principles that guide our work. That is why we are looking for people who share these values and who want to make a difference. Your profile:

  • At least one year of professional experience as an accountant or accounting officer, or comparable expertise in the above-mentioned areas of accounting;
  • At least a good IHK degree as an accountant, or similar;
  • Experience with DATEV, Lexware, or comparable accounting software;
  • Confident handling of MS Office; in particular Excel;
  • Distinct eye for detail and analytical thinking skills;
  • Good written as well as oral communication and presentation skills for internal and external exchange;
  • Good command of English and perfect knowledge of German, both written and spoken.

Would also be an advantage:

  • Knowledge of accounting for non-profit organisations as well as knowledge of personnel law, VAT law, and company law would be an advantage;
  • Understanding EU cross-border workers’ pay slips;
  • Experience in optimising cost centres across multiple projects.
