The accountant will provide general U.S. home office and field office support for a variety of accounting and administrative activities and related tasks. The accountant will be responsible for various accounting processes, including accounts payable, reconciling vendor and credit card statements, travel reports and advances, maintenance of source document filing and vendor files, accounts receivable, audit assistance, as well as other duties or projects as assigned. The successful candidate will have an interactive nature; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities; attention to detail; customer service-oriented disposition; and excellent organizational abilities. The accountant will report to the Director of Accounting.

Specific accountant responsibilities include:

Accounts Payable

  • Record accounts payable information from SharePoint Procurement process flow site
  • Upload of supporting documents into process flow and financial system, including accounts payable checks and wire transfer forms
  • Vendor setup, including banking information
  • Prepare cash disbursements
  • Reconcile IESC credit cards
  • Ensure that all transactions and journal entries are recorded timely and accurately in accordance with internal policies, U.S. GAAP and governmental regulations

Accounts Receivable

  • Record daily cash receipts

Billing

  • Import field office financial reports into financial system
  • Assist Accounting Manager with preparation of client invoices
  • Record monthly leave accruals

Audit

  • Prepare supporting schedules for external audits

  • Monthly work with HO program staff on field reports and review

  • Maintain accurate and organized records for external audit

  • Other audit-related tasks as assigned

Other

  • Provide backup/coverage for Accounting Manager as necessary
  • Assistance with payroll, as necessary

Qualifications:

The accountant must have:

  • Accounting or related degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in accounts payable processing, U.S. government contracting or previous experience in non-profit transaction processing in a highly sophisticated financial system. Sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), policies and procedures. Experience with international NGOs preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles governing Federal cooperative agreements, grants, sub-grants and contracts.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Deltek CostPoint 7.12 and 8/Cloud preferred.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Microsoft SharePoint process flows preferred.
  • Knowledge of/experience with QuickBooks Online preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel; experience with pivot tables and complex formulas required.
  • Familiarity with other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with project multi-cost center organizations.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience with Deltek CostPoint 7.12 and/or 8/Cloud and QuickBooks Online.
