ABA ROLI Africa Summer Intern (Unpaid Internship)

The American Bar Association (“ABA”) has an opportunity for an unpaid intern to gain valuable experience while contributing to the important work of the ABA. The details of the unpaid internship opportunity are as follows:

ABA Department/Section/Entity: ABA ROLI Africa **

Reports to: Olivera Stojanevic , Deputy Director, Africa Division

Work Location: Combination of in office and remote/telework.

Duration of Internship: sixteen (16) weeks If your academic institution or relevant program requires a different duration, please make note of such requirement in your cover letter and provide any supporting documentation for the ABA to consider.

Hours per week: 30 of weekly hours. If your academic institution or relevant program requires a different hourly requirement, please make note of such requirement in your cover letter and provide any supporting documentation for the ABA to consider.

Unpaid: This is an unpaid internship. Participation in the internship is not an offer of employment, and successful completion of the internship program does not entitle the selected intern to an employment offer from the ABA.

Main areas of engagement include:

1) Support to Divisional Outreach

  • Writing blogs for programmatic activities and linkages between the programs

  • Update the webpage where necessary

  • Developing / updating on-pagers for each country portfolio

  • Developing one-pagers for specific programming

2) Annual Strategic Conference Support

  • Support planning of the Division virtual Annual Strategic Conference learning sessions, including learning topics selection, drafting of the agenda, support the facilitation of presentations

3) Unsolicited proposal development

  • Draft a narrative and plan activities / workshops to solve a specific ROL issue in a country of interest. Present the proposed at a Brown-Bag ROLI internal event

4) Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Update prior quarters in DevResults

  • Upload data from past quarters into the system

5) Support to other Divisional activities as requested by the supervisor

With the intern currently on a stipend and a scholarship, and per the intern’s request to ensure he retains both as his school requires, the internship will be hybrid with in-office work on a schedule agreed to with the supervisor.

Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 years old or older and:

· currently enrolled in (or in a deferred enrollment/gap year status recognized by) a post-secondary academic institution (i.e. undergraduate, graduate) and in a program/area of study directly related to the purpose of the internship program; or

· a recent (i.e. up to one (1) year) graduate of a post-secondary academic institution (i.e. undergraduate, graduate) with a degree in a program/area of study directly related to the purpose of the internship program.
