General Description of the Organization:

Ghiras Al-Nahda is a Nonprofit Non-governmental humanitarian organization working to empower people through fulfilling their basic needs and seeking to improve community stability and resilience.

Background to the Assignment

In today’s ever-evolving humanitarian landscape, ensuring that we effectively address the needs of the communities we serve and maintain the highest standards of accountability is paramount. We have observed the growing demand for community-centered approaches that engage local populations actively in our initiatives, empowering them to play an active role in their development.

GAN is looking for a trainer with experience in APP & CE topics to provide training to Field employees in the Syria Office and administrative staff in the Turkey office.

We look forward to implementing the training by someone who is an expert in the fields of AAP, CE, and humanitarian work. We also hope that the training includes a set of workshops, case studies, interactive sessions, and practical exercises to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired are directly applicable to our work.

Scope of Work

Liaise with the GAN Project Manager at HQ to ensure that training is adapted and appropriate for the context and share adapted training materials for future use by GAN staff.

The assignment is to impart 3-day training for each location (Syria and Turkey). The training will be face-to-face for the team in Syria and Turkey. The scope of the training program will provide an advanced level of skills and knowledge to GAN employees.

The training is aimed at achieving the following objectives:

  • Introduction to Humanitarian Principles.
  • Understanding conflict dynamics in humanitarian contexts.
  • Community-Centered Approaches.
  • Principles of AAP and how to integrate them into humanitarian programming.
  • Cross-cultural communication and sensitivity and respecting cultural norms and practices.
  • Strategies for mitigating conflict risks.
  • Integrating gender considerations into all aspects of programming.
  • Data collection and analysis for accountability.
  • Complaints and feedback mechanisms.
  • Using feedback for program improvement.
  • Methods for involving communities in project design.
  • Capturing lessons learned from program activities.
  • Strategies for ensuring that community perspectives are included in decision-making processes.
  • Maintaining the privacy and dignity of community members.
  • Building local capacity for community mobilization.

Methodology:

1.1.1. Preparation of training material and submission to GAN.

1.1.2. The trainer should provide GAN with a list of the logistical requirements needed to complete the training, and GAN should secure these requirements within budget.

1.1.3. Conduct face-to-face training for 3 days for each location (Syria and Turkey).

1.1.4. The trainer should conduct a baseline assessment of the trainees and at the end of the training compare it with the results of the endline to determine the level of progress.

1.1.5. Training should include practical applications during the training period, in addition to important theoretical information, and the trainer should provide trainees with practical solutions to the problems they may encounter.

Note: The offer can only be submitted to one location, with this stated in the application.

Key Deliverables:

The following deliverables are expected from the training provider:

  • The trainer will prepare training materials/agenda/contents/sessions of the training and submit these at least one week before the start of the training.
  • The trainer will also share a complete package of training material.
  • The trainer will facilitate the preparation of training follow-up and action plans.
  • After the completion of the training, the trainer will share a comprehensive training report in the agreed format within 10 days after the completion of the training.

LOCATION:

The location will be in Syria (Idleb-Sarmada) and Turkey (Gaziantep) face to face.

TIMEFRAME

Tentatively this assignment will be on November 20

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The trainer/consultant/resource person will:

  • Sign with GAN a consultancy agreement and work as a resource person for the 3-day training event (for each location).
  • Discuss and agree with GAN on the final training package, content, and deliverables.
  • Develop the training contents and the program for the entire duration of the training period.
  • Design an appropriate process of the training leading to the desired results.
  • Propose on the most appropriate training methodology for effective delivery of the assignment.
  • Devise the tools required for the training.
  • Satisfactorily facilitate the training and ensure active engagement of all the participants.
  • Share relevant training materials and provide any resource materials for further reading and reference by GAN staff.
  • Compile and submit quality training report (one soft copy)

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  1. The resource person/consultant should possess the following qualifications and expertise:
  2. Subject Matter Expertise: The coach should have in-depth knowledge and expertise in the areas of accountability, community engagement, and humanitarian practices. They should be well-versed in the relevant principles, standards, and best practices in these fields.
  3. Effective Communication: Strong communication skills are essential. The coach should be able to clearly articulate concepts, ideas, and instructions. This includes active listening to understand participants’ concerns and feedback.
  4. Facilitation Skills: The ability to facilitate discussions, group activities, and workshops is crucial. The coach should create an inclusive and interactive learning environment that encourages active participation and knowledge sharing.
  5. Problem-Solving: Humanitarian work often involves complex problems. The coach should be skilled in problem-solving and guide participants in developing solutions that respect local cultures and contexts.
  6. Technological Proficiency: Proficiency in using training technologies and tools is essential. This includes multimedia presentations, learning management systems, and data collection platforms.
  7. Time Management: Effective time management skills are needed to ensure that training programs run efficiently and meet their objectives within the allocated time.
  8. Feedback and Adaptation: The coach should encourage a culture of feedback, both for themselves and participants, and be adaptable in incorporating feedback for continuous improvement.
