The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is looking for consultant to support the Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development of the African Union Commission in the process of building capacities of AU MS and RECs on Migration and Health Mainstreaming.

The overall objective of the consultancy is to support the AUC in designing and implementing specific capacity building activities targeting AU Member States and RECs, with the aim to achieve greater coherence between migration and health in policy and in practice. The specific objectives of the assignment are to:

1. Prepare, facilitate and document online sensitisation sessions on migration and health for AU Member States, RECs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), etc.
2. Develop draft practical guidelines on mainstreaming migration and health at policy level to be submitted for Member States and RECs approval, and
3. Prepare, facilitate and document a training workshop for AU Member States and RECs on migration and health.

Required qualifications:

Expert I

– Education/training (2.1.1): PhD in development studies, social sciences, law, health, migration or any related field, – Language (2.1.2): very good language skills in English. Ability to speak French will bean added advantage. – General professional experience (2.1.3): Excellent moderation and training skills, excellent understanding of contemporary politics and dynamics in regard to migration and health in Africa, as well as the challenges and stakes in linking both topics in Africa; strong ability to interact with senior officials (Government officials and representatives of multilateral and bilateral agencies) – Specific professional experience (2.1.4): 10 years training/capacity building/development of manuals, moderation/facilitation, preferably in Africa, previous experience in mainstreaming migration or health in other policy areas – Regional experience (2.1.6): 10 years of international experience with a focus on Africa (region), – Other (2.1.8): Previous working experiences with the AUC and RECs in migration and health governance. Experience in similar assignments would be an added advantage.

Expert II

Education/training (2.1.1): university qualification (German ‘Diplom’/Master) in development studies, social sciences, law, health, migration or any related field, – Language (2.2.2): very good language skills in English. Ability to speak French will be an added advantage. – General professional experience (2.2.3): Excellent moderation and training skills, excellent understanding of contemporary politics and dynamics in regard to migration and health in Africa, as well as the challenges and stakes in linking both topics in Africa; strong ability to interact with senior officials (Government officials and representatives of multilateral and bilateral agencies) – Specific professional experience (2.2.4): 10 years’ experience in policy analysis/advice in the area of migration and/or health; previous experience in mainstreaming migration or health in other policy areas. – Regional experience (2.2.6): 10 years of international experience with a focus on Africa (region), – Other (2.2.8): Previous working experiences with the AUC and RECs in migration and health governance. Experience in similar assignments would be an added advantage.
