2210 – SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR, PUBLIC AFFAIRS (GRPA)

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a federally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Social Media Coordinator for Public Affairs. This position is part of the Government Relations and Public Affairs (GRPA) Department and is based in Washington, D.C.
Position Summary:
The Social Media Coordinator collaborates with the public affairs team to plan, develop, monitor, and implement NED’s social media presence across multiple platforms and teams.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate social media planning across NED social channels – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, & LinkedIn, including stories and reels
- Serve as the community manager, respond to messages, and actively increase engagement
- Monitor social media industry trends, identify potential opportunities for different platforms and target audience engagement
- Pull and analyze data and analytics and build monthly reports and recommendations
- Manage online reputation by monitoring news and trends in social media, keeping an eye out for negative or criticism and provide assistance in addressing the problem
Content Development:
- Draft, edit, and schedule social media content based on communications priorities and editorial calendar
- Coordinate with digital team to create optimized graphics, videos, other multimedia per platform recommended dimensions
- Optimize messages/compile packages for easy usage
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with GRPA team as well as cross-departmental team to create and edit social media content
- Maintain a social media editorial calendar; look ahead for opportunities that should be leveraged and determine appropriate channels and messaging
- Identify opportunities for proactive social media interactions
- Interact with target audiences, key social media influencers and others to elevate the National Endowment for Democracy’s voice
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or Communications
- 2+ years of experience as a marketing, social media, or communications professional.
- Previous experience drafting social media posts for a brand/company/organization.
Other Qualifications
- Proficiency in Photoshop
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Previous experience with a social media posting platforms
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, coordinate, and collaborate
- A passion for and early adopter of social media platforms, willing to explore best use cases
- Interest in and knowledge of international affairs desirable
- May have to work outside of normal operating hours during live events or in response to time-sensitive news and developments
This position is part of the NED Bargaining Unit.
