2208 – PROGRAM ASSISTANT, GOVERNMENT RELATIONS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS (GRPA)

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a federally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Program Assistant, Government Relations and Public Affairs, this position is part of the Government Relations and Public Affairs (GRPA) Department and is based in Washington, D.C.

Position Summary:

Work under the direction of the VP for Government Relation and Public Affairs to provide support for engagement with Congress and NED’s Board of Directors, as well as assist with internal communications, special projects, and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Support outreach to Capitol Hill, including coordinating meetings with Hill staff and Members of Congress.
  • Assist with meetings of NED’s Board of Directors and management of relations with the Board.
  • Assist VP for GRPA with internal communications, special projects, and administrative tasks.
  • Support NED’s Penn Kemble Forum on Democracy program.

Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience

  • Formal degree requirements and years of relevant job experience required:
  • B.A. in international affairs, politics, or a similar field.
  • Previous work experience in government relations or on Capitol Hill is preferred.
  • Sample reel of video work is required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in field of support democracy, human rights and governance and a desire to gain experience in the international non-profit sector.
  • Ability to work evenings 1-2 per month to support Board of Director and Penn Kemble events.

Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
