With a growing international project portfolio, they are expanding their team and seeking a skilled and passionate Carbon Project Developer with expertise in Improved Cookstoves and a focus on advancing the ‘Commonland African Improved Cookstove Programme’ across Africa.

About the Role:

As a Carbon Project Developer at Commonland, the chosen candidate will play a vital role in advancing the expansion and execution of the ‘Commonland African Improved Cookstove Programme’ across Africa. Responsibilities encompass providing support for various carbon projects, including Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR), Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), Grassland and Savanna Restoration, Improved Agricultural Land Management, and other AFOLU project categories. The role involves crafting project proposals, implementing Improved Cookstoves Projects, and being responsible for end-to-end process implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement carbon offset projects, focusing on Improved Cookstoves projects associated with the voluntary carbon market.
  • Provide support for a range of carbon projects, including ARR, REDD+, Grassland and Savanna Restoration, and others.
  • Lead feasibility studies, new carbon accounting methodologies, and Project Design Documents (PDD).
  • Collaborate with the Landscape Development & Support team and engage stakeholders throughout the project preparation process.
  • Maintain relationships with carbon standards, project owners, authorities, clients, and validation/verification bodies.
  • Conduct site visits and travel to project locations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Academic background in Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in developing and implementing carbon offset projects, with a specific focus on Improved Cookstoves projects associated with the voluntary carbon market.
  • Excellent knowledge of carbon standards and methodologies (CDM, Gold Standard, VCS, Plan Vivo) in the NBS sector.
  • Strong existing networks in the NBS field.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and collaborative relationship-building.
  • Skills in statistics, database management, GIS, and remote sensing are highly appreciated.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and remote working tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English; proficiency in French, Spanish, and Dutch is a big plus.
