Essential Functions:
Working under the direction of experienced mentoring underwriters, an underwriting intern will “shadow” a treaty underwriter and will be asked to perform various tasks such as:
- Gain a solid understanding of Odyssey’s treaty underwriting philosophy and conduct
- Assist in the underwriting process for new and renewal business, including:
- Analyzing current and proposed program structures
- Reviewing program’s quantitative model inputs /outputs from Actuarial
- Other information gathering / analysis to further understanding of program dynamics
- Assist in documenting individual program underwriting process and conclusions, especially for bound business
- Assist in marketing coordination and underwriting audit preparation
- Work on potential department projects, such as risk aggregation monitoring, specific line of business research and information analysis to support marketing plans
- Attend virtual and in-person meetings with brokers and clients
- Prepare and execute a presentation at the conclusion of the internship program to senior management, outlining your overall experience
- Internship will run for 10 weeks beginning June of 2023
- Hybrid role based out of our Stamford, CT office
Skills, Knowledge & Ability:
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Discretion in handling confidential/sensitive information
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi task/prioritize
- A self-starter and entrepreneurial mindset
Education:
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university, preferably credited in the junior or rising senior year
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0
