Odyssey Reinsurance Company is the reinsurance arm of the Odyssey Group, a global (re)insurance enterprise wholly-owned by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited. Reinsurers are part of the financial services industry, providing capital and risk management solutions for clients, mostly insurance companies, to efficiently manage economic risk.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the actuarial team at Odyssey Re is to evaluate the profitability of reinsurance proposals by employing sound actuarial techniques and business acumen while working closely with the company’s underwriting staff. By assisting senior actuarial staff in their pricing endeavors, the intern will experience first-hand the skills needed to become a reinsurance actuary. The internship will run for 10 weeks beginning June of 2023. This is a hybrid role based out of our Stamford, CT office.

Essential Functions:

Projects may include building and improving upon pricing models used by the Department, developing dashboards with state of the art data visualization tools that will help us relay pertinent information to our clients, plus other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the company and department.

Requirements:

• The candidate should be working towards a degree in an actuarial science or other mathematical field of study with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
• Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and a desire to learn are a must.
• A demonstrated interest in actuarial science through participation in the Casualty Actuarial Society exam process is preferred and strongly encouraged.
• Familiarity with Excel is required.
• Experience with VBA for Excel, Tableau, SQL, R, Python or similar software is a plus.
