HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced college student to join our team and complete an engaging and hands-on co-op with us! The co-op will start in January and end date is flexible (June – August). Unmanned Systems is a business group within HII Mission Technologies division, creates advanced unmanned maritime solutions for defense, marine research, and commercial applications. Serving customers in more than 30 countries, HII provides design, autonomy, manufacturing, testing, operations, and sustainment of unmanned systems, including unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and unmanned surface vessels (USVs).

We are looking for students in electrical engineering to join us!

Your Responsibilities Include

You be be responsible for electrical engineering tasks in a production environment. You must be able to work in a fast-paced engineering/production environment and meet critical deadlines.

  • Modify and update schematics and generate wiring and cable diagrams using OrCAD.
  • Generate engineering change orders (ECOs) related to electronics assemblies and wiring diagrams.
  • Search for replacement electronics components and IC for ones that have gone obsolete and update bill of material (BOM).
  • Redesign of existing circuits to replace parts that have become obsolete.
  • Conduct Wi-Fi testing.
  • Maintain OrCAD parts and connector view database.
  • Generate and maintain bill of material (BOM).
  • Assist in trouble-shooting electronic board assemblies and system wiring.
  • Work with electronic board manufacturers to answer questions and resolve parts problems.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with the other mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Maintain a professional manner to enhance the company’s image with customers.
  • Attend and participate in technical meetings.
  • Occasionally go out with the Unmanned Systems team and help run test missions with the vehicles in open water.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you will be doing…

Internships are available to help students gain real-world experience in the work force. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior leadership. Support the Engineering team with engineering functions in one or more of the following specialties: electronics, electrical, mechanical, civil, naval, and/or chemical. Assist with troubleshooting issues and provide technical support.

What we are looking for…

High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor’s degree with between 20% and 40% of the required credits completed.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance.

Experience with circuit card components, performance characteristics, and component manufacturers.

Familiar with circuit modeling and circuit card design using Cadence OrCAD/PCB Editor

Must have experience with OrCAD
