About the job

The role of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Assistant (Monitor) is to support the MEAL Officer in the implementation of the MEAL work plan and contribute to achieving and improving the quality of the program/project. The MEAL Assistant – Monitor will follow-up progress and collect data on the effectiveness of planned interventions by collecting and supporting with the data analysis. The MEAL Assistant – Monitor plays an important role in carrying out MEAL activities in the field, including field monitoring and verification, baseline and endline assessments, needs assessment and surveys. The role holder will also work on ensuring that Community-Based Feedback and Response Mechanisms (CBFFMs) are in place across operational areas.

Reporting line

The MEAL Assistant – Monitor will report directly to the MEAL Officer and/or MEAL Manager/Coordinator and will also be expected to work closely with MEAL team.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. IMC’s policies, guidelines, and procedures
  • Actively promote Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) standards within IMC and amongst its beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the Code of Conduct, ethics, values, and standpoint with regards to internal and external actors.
  1. MEAL system
  • Use data collection tools to gather qualitative and quantitative data at different levels (facility and community).
  • Support MEAL department in development of databases for all programs by using available technologies.
  • Implement the basic monitoring and evaluation concepts and system in accordance with the purpose of MEAL activities.
  • Implement field level MEAL activities according to the MEAL work plan and support M&E activities, such as physical verification of assets, post distribution monitoring, data quality audits, surveys/assessments, etc.
  • Ensure data entry using an electronic database.
  1. Data quality management
  • Conduct on-site routine data quality audits at facility and community levels adhering to data quality audit guidelines.
  1. Sampling
  • Apply the concept of random sampling, systematic sampling or appropriate household’s selection method following instructions/guidelines of a manager.
  • Apply the method ‘spin-the-bottle’ used for selection of households in population-based surveys.
  1. Qualitative and quantitative techniques
  • Conduct qualitative data collection activities and review data from the field for deficiencies or errors, correct any incompatibilities if possible.
  • Regularly perform data cleaning and data integrity and ensure data quality.
  • Perform data entry using a statistical software, under guidance and supervision.
  1. Mobile and manual data collection
  • Understand the purpose, advantages, and disadvantages of mobile data collection techniques.
  • Collect data using smart phones/tablets.
  1. Techniques for presenting information
  • Translate Arabic-English and English-Arabic qualitative data.
  • Apply and use basic data visualization skills (use of tables and graphs to represent data and information) for data presentation.
  1. Learning and knowledge management
  • Promote internal learning by sharing timely feedback from and to the field.
  • Process basic data visualization using tables and graphs to represent data and information.
  • Support the program/project in documenting the lessons learned.

Skills, Qualifications, Experience and Attitude Required

  • Diploma or a bachelor’s degree in related fields.
  • Previous experience working with a humanitarian organization is highly desirable.
  • Understand the basic monitoring and evaluation concepts and the purpose of MEAL.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in English

  • Ability to collaborate with the different departments.
  • Personal and organizational skills, including time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
