JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this job is to design, manage and evaluate strategic campaigns and actions taken to deliver Amnesty International Kenya’s overall theory of change, program goals and results around expanding freedoms of expression, association, assembly, and active citizenship.

Campaign Manager, Campaign Officers, Communications Unit, and relevant IS global thematic staff.

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this job is to provide logistical, administrative, and programmatic execution support for the delivery of Amnesty Kenya’s digital rights projects. As an integral part of its the 2021-2023 Strategic Framework, Amnesty International Kenya is working to strengthen data governance by seeking the operationalisation of the Data Protection Act (2019) through citizen responsive guidelines and practices. This data governance project also bridges the divide between data for development organisations and human rights organisations. This job will also support a newly funded project developing young people’s knowledge of digital rights, the nature of technology, and its impact on their health and well-being.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A Junior Professional, the Campaign Officer will:
  • Support the design, scheduling, implementation, and documentation of digital rights activities and correspondence (training, workshops, events, meetings and convenings).
  • Monitor and document digital rights violations and developments in Kenya.
  • Conduct research on digital rights, review related bills, laws, policies and maintain a digital rights policy database.
  • Support the design of imaginative and authoritative digital rights knowledge-based materials.
  • Input into planning, budgeting, and reporting on project activities as well as strategies to strengthen impact.
  • Requisition and account for financial, other resources and services needed for implementation of digital rights project activities.
  • Work with the Communications team to ensure social media support.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for digital rights project activities.
  • Perform other tasks as may be reasonably assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

ESSENTIAL 

  • Commitment to Amnesty values and objectives.
  • At least a first degree in human rights, social sciences, management, or another appropriate discipline.
  • At least 1-year of human rights or relevant program/administration experience.
  • Confident communications with good analytical, presentation and digital skills
  • Demonstrated content development experience, digital media mobilisation and community engagement using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Telegram channels, among others.
  • Sensitivity and ability to work with people from various cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated project management and administration skills.
  • Strong research and report writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and administrative skills.

 DESIRABLE 

  • Experience working in an NGO human rights context.
  • Experience in participating in campaigns through the complete campaign lifecycle (issue identification, strategy development, campaign delivery, monitoring, campaign exit and impact assessment)
