What We Want

The Graduate and Professional School is seeking a Director of Data Services. The selected candidate will serve as a member of the Grad School senior leadership team and be responsible for effectively managing data services providing internal and external client support for graduate and professional student data needs at Texas A&M University. The Director executes and improves analysis and data display in support of data-driven decision making and coordinates assessment processes related to university and unit key performance indicators and strategic plan measures. Serves as a key stakeholder of graduate student data and processes within the Ellucian Banner student information system for the university. The ideal candidate will be solutions driven with experience and understanding of data in the higher education sector. The preferred candidate will have progressive management and supervisory experience in externally facing roles and within a complex, collaborative, and dynamic environment. The selected candidate will lead a diverse team and be adaptable, able to work independently and interdependently, service-oriented, and possess strong communication skills. What You Need To Know

Salary Range: $68,012.00 – $87,422.40 (Based on selected hire’s qualifications)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten years’ experience in a university/higher education environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience and understanding of data in the higher education sector.
  • More than 10 years progressive management and supervisory experience
  • Professional experience in higher education; and experience within a complex, collaborative, and dynamic department.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Ellucian Banner, degree audit, and academic environments;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work and meet deadlines and to use creative thinking skills and problem solving
  • Advanced proficiency working in data analysis software;
  • Knowledge of TAMUS policies and regulations and TAMU rules.

Responsibilities:

  • COORDINATION OF DATA SERVICES PROCESSES AND PROJECTS – Effectively plan, manage, and conduct activities of Data Services: Conduct and oversee consistent and quality analysis plans, survey dissemination, reporting processes, and data file compilation. Oversee timely submission of semester and annual data feeds for approved vendor agreements, collaborative efforts with other organizations, and approved IRBs. Plan and implement effective and equitable policies and procedures to modernize and enhance efficiency. Work collaboratively with Technology Services entities at Texas A&M to ensure continuous support for necessary software needs for data services. Lead efforts to maintain data visualization in Tableau and other relevant tools to provide both public and private/secured areas where stakeholders may access up-to-date data analysis on graduate and professional student data. Serve as Data Owner for graduate student data at Texas A&M and alternate Primary Authorizing Agent for the unit. Oversee Compass Work Request submission for the graduate school and lead efforts to improve and automate processes related to graduate student data in the student information system.
  • SUPERVISORY/ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES – Effectively manage and coordinate activities and personnel in Data Services: Establish and manage schedules of staff. Accurately direct workflow, set priorities, organize, and review work. Monitor and evaluate staff performance in a timely manner. Develop and interpret policies in a consistent manner. Devise appropriate strategies, as needed, to resolve unexpected difficulties or unique problems. Conduct high quality interviews, hiring, training and supervision staff members. Represent the Graduate and Professional School in various campus committees or meetings.
  • GRADUATE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP DUTIES – Participate as a collaborative member of the Graduate School Leadership Team. Successfully lead Graduate and Professional School initiatives. Develop, and coordinate implementation of, well planned strategies to advance the Graduate and Professional School. Actively and positively influence internal staff and external constituents to accomplish the Graduate School vision, mission, and goals.
  • COORDINATION OF IRB AND ASSESSMENT NEEDS – Coordinate annual IRB activity related to data sharing and compliance. Oversee assessment practices for the Graduate and Professional School. Ensure that data is readily available for the terms required to fulfill IRB agreements and assessment metrics.
  • COMMUNICATIONS – Provide high quality communication to graduate students, faculty and staff surrounding University policies and procedures, as it relates to reporting, data, and student information system processes. Provide timely and appropriate information and advice to the Graduate School administration on daily operations and specific problems. Performs other duties as assigned.
