Occ Summary

Assist the Director, Human Resources, in determining the Human Resources strategic and programmatic needs and priorities of Duke University Health System. Identify, anticipate, and respond to human resource needs among departments. In coordination and cooperation with Corporate HR, ensure the provision of human resource services based on departmental requirements.

Work Performed

  • Evaluate and assess human resource needs of customers including, but herein.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described not limited to, coordinating closely with department representatives to determine and document perceived needs, identifying human resource problems and customer expectations and confirming problem definition and expectations with department representatives.
  • Determine service areas and options available to address identified needs; gather facts and information related to problem definition for the purpose of clearly defining needs and issues and coordinate with appropriate Human Resources service areas to plan the delivery of services to meet identified and emerging customer expectations.
  • Develop and communicate to customers a plan for meeting identified needs and serve as the leadperson in planning and coordinating integrated HR services and in communicating and evaluating the delivery of those services; identify and establish agreed-upon measures and outcomes to ensure expectations are fulfilled.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and staff members regarding the application of Human Resources policies and the implementation of identified services to ensure that appropriate Human Resources practices are implemented.
  • Act independently with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Maintain astrategic perspective while focusing on problem identification and solving. Serve as the interim/acting Director as needed, interacting with senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Report directly to the Director of Human Resources, collaborating with Corporate HR Services in the implementation and evaluation of specific Human Resources services, and responding to direction and support from senior leadership and the DUHS Vice President of Human Resources.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Work generally requires skills, knowledge, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field.
