What You’ll Do

The Advanced Neural Processor Lab (NPL) mission is to create next generation architecture for neural processors and develop innovative system and storage architectures that transform the performance of machine learning in mobile devices, HPC and supercomputer centers.

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose headquarters 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time

Reports to: Principal, Software Development Infrastructure Engineering

  • We are looking for parallel or scale out distributed file systems experts who love to architect, design, write, and debug code.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and, test reviews, bug fixes for hyper scale systems.
  • Responsibility for backend management plane, cluster state management and distributed storage.
  • Participate in making contributions to the full stack development.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing PhD degree or Master’s degree with equivalent experience
  • Solid Education and Background in Computer Science and Engineering with deep understanding of:
    • Operating Systems fundamentals (e.g. CPU scheduling, memory management, multithreading, synchronization, virtualization, I/O, file systems)
    • Data Structure fundamentals and Algorithm Analysis (e.g. time and space complexity)
    • Computer Network fundamentals (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS)
  • Expertise and/or hands-on experiences in the following areas are highly desired:
    • Strong communication and writing skills
    • Desired Programing Languages: C/C++, Go, Python, Shell scripting, Java
    • Local and remote file systems concepts (Ext4, FAT, NTFS, NFS/CIFS) and storage technologies (e.g. PCIe, NVMe, SPDK/PMDK, Erasure Coding, RAID, Key-Value Stores)
    • Distributed computing (e.g. peer-to-peer and client-server models, RDMA, RPC)
    • Distributed file systems (e.g. scalability, replication, reliability & security) and open source projects such as Ceph, Lustre and DAOS
    • Familiarity with Agile development process and automation tools (e.g. git, gdb, Ansible)
    • Participation in the open-source community (e.g. Linux kernel)
  • Experiences in the following areas are pluses:
    • Familiarity with AI development framework and software stack (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, CUDA, oneAPI)
    • Understanding of CPU and GPU architecture and other hardware accelerator technologies (e.g. DPU, FPGA, Computational Storage Devices)
    • Experiences with HPC and scientific computing environments
    • Experiences with Kubernetes and Docker and other container technologies
