The Surgery Scheduler must schedule office based and hospital procedures consistent with the patient’s diagnosis and procedure request. Also requires scheduling and obtaining pre-operative testing, writing and communicating surgery orders, and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries. This individual works closely with patients, physicians, and surgery location to providing accurate, timely, and responsive paperwork.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Schedules office and hospital based medical procedures following provider protocol and established process based on patient needs and surgical locationOrders and monitors preoperative testingFaxes history and physical requests to Primary Care Physician and specialistsCoordinates with the materials department to ensure all necessary equipment will be onsite for office and hospital based procedures including scheduling with anesthesia groupsEnsures appropriate coordination with other hospital departments when special surgical needs occurProvides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patientsAnswers calls from office staff, physicians, and anesthesiologists and assists with questions or requestsConfirms patients schedule with all offices and patientCompletes monthly reports and compiles data for the state reportingNotates insurance information and verifies the information matches the patient’s insurance cardPublishes and distributes a daily surgery schedule and surgical log for all departments concernedFiles, collects, and organizes pre and post operational data for referenceCompetencies: Comprehension: Understands and applies detailed instructions and factual information in oral, written and/or diagram formJudgment: Acts with the patient’s best interest making timely and informed decisions in complex situations; accepts responsibility to maintain patient confidentialityTechnical Expertise: The ability to demonstrate depth of knowledge and skill in a technical area; is sought out as an expert to provide advice or solutions in his/her technical area.Planning and Organizing: Manages a high volume of tasks at one time, prioritizing workload while maintaining a high level of attention to detailInitiative / Independence: Works independently with little needed direction taking responsibility for own time and effectiveness.
