Position Overview

This position is a paid internship for a college student currently working towards a degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or another related field. Candidate will work with data that helps facilitate decisions throughout the company. The position will work on projects that meet both educational goals and data analytics goals of the company. Projects will include interpreting data, designing/developing, basic programming, maintaining, and improving Business Intelligence (BI) solutions. In addition, this individual works closely with various business departments to define reporting and data needs.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and creates new reports, dashboards, and data analyses.
  • Implements revisions to existing reports, dashboards, and data analyses.
  • Assures proper validation of new or revised reports is completed.
  • Optimizes efficient acquisition of data to support quality surveillance and quality improvement.
  • Builds reports to pull data from both transactional and analytical data housed within a variety of systems.
  • Participates in development, data collection and analysis to support improvement projects.
  • Translates complex requests from organizational staff without technical background into language that allows accurate report building.
  • Validates reports against other data sources to assure accuracy.
  • Supports maximal efficiency of Analytics Team by recommending and providing more efficient data gathering options.
  • Prepares materials to best present collected data (graphics, charts, trend lines, etc.).
  • Responds to ad hoc report requests.
  • Maintains daily, weekly, monthly report processes.
  • Streamlines existing reporting and analyses processes where possible.
  • Trains new users on use of the reporting products.
  • Encourages and assists users in the use of additional/new product features.
  • Designs, develops, implements, and manages data using best practices for analytics.
  • Designs, develops, owns, and maintains ETL/ELT data flows across a constellation of data sources and systems.
  • Identifies areas of improvement.
  • Performs administration and maintenance of reporting environment.
  • Completes software maintenance and upgrade tasks.
  • Assists in the development of backup and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Communicates with vendors for support and resolution of issues as needed.
  • Remains knowledgeable of industry trends, practices, and innovations.
  • Respects and maintains confidentiality.
  • Works in a safe, compliant, and ethical manner.
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Work closely with others to complete a task.
  • Redirect problems to appropriate resource
  • Learn to become a liaison between IT professionals and end user.

Qualifications

  • Analytical and conceptual expertise
  • Planning, documentation, analysis, and business requirements management techniques
  • Excellent communicator
  • Project management a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be self-driven and able to accomplish entry-level troubleshooting tasks.
  • Part-time position 10-20 hours per week during school semesters. Full-time during summer break.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Well organized with good time management skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
