Data Engineering & Analytics Internship, Summer 2023

Internship candidates can expect a full-time onsite internship program, running from June 1, 2023 to August 11, 2023. This internship opportunity is offered in Milwaukee, WI, Franklin, WI, and New York City, NY. Internship candidates who are relocating for the summer internship opportunity are eligible for round-trip airline/train travel and mileage reimbursement to and from your internship location and company-provided housing for the duration of the summer internship program in accordance with the company’s relocation policy.

Data Engineering & Analytics Internship

As a Data Engineer or Analytics Engineer Intern, you will work within the Core Data & Analytics function alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual’s success. We are here to help you both identify and continue to develop your future career goals and passions.

• Data Engineering- A data engineer intern supports the engineering needs of our data science and analytics teams. This includes exploration, acquisition, cleansing, transformation, understanding, and assembly of data to support various analytics efforts from descriptive to prescriptive. Team members have a solid understanding of the unique data structures needed to solve analytics problems and provide business context and meaning to the data provided.
• Analytics Engineering- An analytics engineer intern acquires, analyzes, combines, synthesizes, and structures data with clear definitions and sources for analytical consumption. You’ll build the understanding of workstream business domains and the meaning of the data in it to be able to accurately identify key and associated data which can be extracted, transformed, and loaded for effective consumption downstream. Interns will support the development of data products using continuous deployment and integration practices.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs. Minimum qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field from an accredited college or university
• Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
• Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: SQL, R, Java, Python, Tableau, Power BI, and other data & visualization tools
• Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role

Preferred Skills And Proficiencies

• Previous software engineering or data focused internship and/or relevant project experience
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Self-starter who is results-oriented, resourceful, analytical, innovative, and intellectually curious
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
• High degree of self-motivation, passion, and a drive to learn
• Ability to balance multiple priorities
• SQL skills and working knowledge of ETL processes a plus
• Ability to troubleshoot network, software, and hardware issues
• Experience sourcing, cleansing, and combining datasets from disparate sources
• Passion for problem solving, research, quantitative analysis, and analytical working techniques
• Extremely organized with high attention to details
