Work Description
The Project Accountant will participate in the overall delivery of the construction projects. This position will include tasks in accounts payable, accounts receivable and client billings, job costing and reconciliations. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality approach to all employees, customers, managers, suppliers All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Doran vision, mission, and must comply with all company policies and procedures.
Major Responsibilities:
Project Accountant
· Process monthly contract progress billings (including quantity, lump sum and time & material in a timely and efficient manner.
· Process miscellaneous billings as required.
· Process monthly subcontract progress billings. Ensure subcontract invoices match the approved amounts and follow-up on any discrepancies with Project Managers.
· Process monthly AP invoices, expense claims, intercompany transactions and utilities.
· Ensure required documentation is submitted by subcontractors prior to payment being released.
· Reconcile subcontractor and supplier accounts.
· Prepare subcontractor and supplier payment cheques.
· Understand each project and its budget with respect to accounting and reporting for the project.
· Liaise with project managers to process vendor and subcontractor invoices and to prepare monthly client billing.
· Assist Project Accounting Manager to prepare job cost analyses as required.
· Assist in preparation of year-end audit file.
· Maintain electronic and paper filing system.
· Verify, code, process, and post various supplier invoices as required.
· Perform other job duties as required by the Project Accounting Manager.
Statement of Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Post-secondary diploma or undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance or a related field is required.
A minimum of five years’ work experience, with at least three years in accounting and/or in a similar project accounting role.
· Strong analysis and reconciliation skills.
· Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
· Effective communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
· Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
· Ability to problem-solve and think critically.
· Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word) and Adobe software.
· Knowledge of accounting software, experience with eCMS ERP system by Computer Guidance Corporation would be considered an asset but is not required.
Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and approach situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.
Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment
Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.
· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
· Repetitive work.
Overtime may be required during peak times and/or based on project needs.
