New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and invites applications for a Research Scientist to support the development of a regional climate model for the Arabian Peninsula and to study the local impacts of climate change. The candidate will work closely with other NYUAD researchers under Prof. Olivier Pauluis and Prof. Francesco Paparella’s supervision within the newly established Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (ACCESS), an interdisciplinary research center focused on regional climate and environmental change.
The position is likely to begin on 1 Jan. 2023 and will extend for two years, with renewal possible depending on performance and budgets. Candidates must have a PhD in atmospheric sciences or a related field completed by December 2022. Experience in numerical weather modeling and climate data analysis is considered crucial experience, ideally with an emphasis on regional impacts of climate change. Experience with climate downscaling and with the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model is an advantage. The successful candidate will work with scientists at NYUAD and international collaborators to further our understanding of regional climate change over the Arabian Peninsula. Among the potential focus areas are: tropical cyclones in the Arabian Sea, dust and sandstorm modeling, regional air-sea interactions, and climate impacts on urban areas. The ideal candidate would have demonstrated the ability to combine numerical simulations and data analysis to improve our physical understanding of climate change and its regional impacts.
Salary will be contingent on experience and the position comes with a very attractive salary and benefits package including a housing allowance, annual flights, tuition for children (if relevant), and medical insurance. Salary and benefits are entirely tax free in the UAE.
