Detention Field Officer

The Detention Field Officer plans and carries out detention visits and elaborates/maintains a regular network with key interlocutors. S/he provides support in analysis to develop and refine the delegation’s work on “preventing and addressing ill-treatment” in early stages of detention in line with the overall detention strategy under the lead of the Detention Delegate. S/he will be expected to develop, provide recommendation and execute based on the agreed plan of action in preventing and addressing ill-treatment in early stages of detention.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the lead of the detention delegate, organizes and carries out detention visits to contribute to the understanding of issues related to preventing and addressing ill-treatment in early stages of detention.
  • Conducts data collection and analysis regarding ill-treatment, obtained from interviews with people deprived of liberty, authorities in order to produce reports and do the respective follow-up, and maintains a network of key interlocutors.
  • Independently draft report and follow up on the recommendations when applicable.
  • Supports the organization of workshops, roundtables, and seminars aimed at systemic support to detaining authorities.

REQUIRED PROFILE

  • At least 2-3 years’ working experience in a related field, such as the social, political or economic sciences in a humanitarian organization is an asset
  • University Degree in the fields of social science, social and development work, and other similar fields
  • Familiarity on detention context is an asset
  • Comprehensive and accurate analytical skills
  • High level of negotiation and social skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications
