People Serving People Foundation

People Serving People Foundation (PSPF) is a young and vibrant Thai foundation based in Bangkok, Thailand. We work in partnership with a broad range of Thai and ASEAN civil society organizations, international NGOs, UN agencies, foreign governments, and civil society activists on human rights issues in the region. The Senior Protection Officer would work within PSPF’s legal aid clinic, the Center for Asylum Protection (CAP), which provides legal assistance to urban refugees. CAP works on both legal and policy issues to advocate for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

The Senior Protection Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Interviewing clients to assess needs and refer to in-house and external services (such as legal aid, safety orientation, livelihood, skill training, mental health counseling, emergency assistance, advocacy, etc.);
  • Implementing trauma-informed practices and coordinating services offered by mental health professionals both in Thailand and abroad;
  • Serving as a liaison and conducting case and policy advocacy with Thai government agencies;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with local service providers, partners, and academic institutions;
  • Assisting the legal team as necessary in client contact, interview preparation, interview attendance, viewing and preserving interview transcripts, representation in Thai courts, workshops on protection and on refugee status determination, research and analysis on Thai law, and related functions and activities;
  • Supervising and assigning tasks to one or more junior Protection Officers; and
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the PSPF Executive Director from time to time.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A University degree in Law is strongly preferred, but other relevant degrees will be considered;
  • Minimum of five years post-graduate work experience, ideally in a management/supervisory position;
  • Experience in refugee protection and assistance or other relevant human rights experience;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in an international, multi-cultural environment;
  • Reliable, organized, with an ability to multi-task; and
  • Native-language command of Thai and professional working proficiency in English.

Compensation:

The Senior Protection Officer will be paid a locally competitive salary consistent with similar positions in other nonprofit organizations and with the applicant’s experience and ability. Benefits include a health insurance stipend (included in the salary) and 23 days per year of paid personal leave.
