Job Description
As a Social Performance Specialist your responsibilities will include:
Safety & Health
- Take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
- Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
- Identify specific risks within working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/system to avoid these risks
Performance & Delivery
Operational Planning
- Develop operational strategies and an integrated communication plan for the complex aligned to the AAP and AA plc business strategies
Work Management
- Ensure the social systems adequately meet reporting requirements for SED and that data is up to
- date and accurate
- Monitor and report on SEAT report at least quarterly to GM/HODs
- Integrate all Human Rights related issues in the risk and impact assessment across all disciplines at site
- Appoint external contractor with specialist Human Rights knowledge (if required)
- Oversee external contractor in implementation of Human Rights Due Diligence
- Assess Human Rights related risks (if not external contractor involved)
- Draft HR DD Plan
- Social Performance Specialist
- Inform Group and BU of HR DD results, could be done through normal risk reporting
- Socio-Economic Assessment Tool (SEAT)
- Advise on SP related topics for Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)
- Review ESIA and provide SP feedback
- Implement SP Impact Management Plan from ESIA
- Consolidate ESIA results in SMP
- Appoint external consultant for SEAT assessment (if necessary)
- Undertake SEAT assessment or oversee the assessment (if external contractor is used)
- Implement agreed changes from SEAT
- Develop Public SEAT Report with management actions
- Track delivery with stakeholders and provide update in SEAT community report (every 3 years)
- Advise on issues and follow up to Operation Management and Social Manager Projects
- Ensure adequate record keeping and maintenance of SEAT related project information on the system
- Identify local issues, categorise and prioritise them accordingly
- Social Management Plan (SMP)
- Develop yearly SMP with input from HODs
- Review and adjust the SMP from previous year
- Integrate SMP with operating model
- Maintain project information on ENABLON system to ensure auditability
- Assess existing social performance initiatives / improvements.
- Implement projects related to regulatory engagements and licenses (e.g., Social Mitigation Plans)
- Identify, select and prioritize local community projects, by ensuring alignment with Social and
- Labour Plan (SLP), SEAT, Anglo Platinum Social Performance Strategy and IDP of local government
- Manage the implementation of Social Performance Improvement project plans and monitor projects for changes to progress, budget, scope or risks
- Develop, review and annually update Operational Social Improvement Plans and action plan
- Develop an issues management plan, report in central Issues Management System and track progress
- Integrate Social Management Plan with Life of Mine plan
Sustainability and Social
- Execute the delivery of the sustainability activities as relevant to discipline and set out in the Life of
- Asset Plan to improve sustainability performance over time
- Comply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to discipline
- Implement environmental and social risk mitigation techniques as specified in the asset risk management approach as relevant to discipline
- Implement sustainability initiatives relevant for work area and report on progress
- Act consistently with sustainability expectations
People & Teams
- Act in line and support a purpose-led, high performing culture, applying the company values and principles of inclusion and diversity
- Act as a role model and actively engage as a team member in all team processes
- Participate in day-to-day communications with teams
Compliance
- Adhere to external local compliance requirements as a minimum level of site performance
- Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of team
- Adhere to compliance governance within the team
This role is pitched at a Band 6 level and will report into the Social Performance Section Planning Manager
Qualifications
- Post graduate qualification in /Social Sciences Degree or equivalent
- Qualification in Integrated Social Impact Assessments
- Training / qualification in Gender and Development studies
- Rural Participatory Facilitation
- Communication and/or public relations
- Advantageous Business/Project Management qualifications
Experience Required
- At least 6 years development management experience of which at least two should be in a mining environment
- Experience in designing and managing social improvement projects
- Experience in compiling social profiles, social impact assessments
- Experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement sessions
- Experience in resolving complex problems and situations in your capacity as a project leader
- Advantage experience in stakeholder engagement and ability to win the support and confidence of stakeholders and beneficiaries
