Job Summary:
Provides leadership in the operational activities of the program. Supports the university through outreach by facilitating workshops and micro-credentials to build researcher awareness and to engage faculty, PhDs candidates and postdocs in a program to strategize and execute their research commercialization programs.
Oversees the execution of outreach training programs. Maintains a dynamic university and community outreach program including participating in, hosting, organizing events and creating other PR activities such as hackathons or incubators.
Designs, develops and strategizes on workshops and other forms of learning to expand the faculty and student knowledge, understanding and interest in research commercialization
Prepares faculty through coaching, mentoring and direct instruction to identify and secure the necessary resources inside and outside the university (mentors, collaborators, students, grants, funding) to advance their research commercialization
Trains faculty and students for pitches, funder meetings and grant interviews.
Perform analysis, evaluation and drafting of documents and coaching and mentoring of faculty to support the design and development of new research commercialization projects suitable for federal agency grant funding.
Proposes plans, develops, and executes new initiatives for the program.
Evaluates and analyzes program effectiveness. Implements procedures to improve the program’s operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, education, or related field and six (6) years of related work experience or Master’s degree in business, education, or related field and four (4) years of related work experience.
Departmental Requirements:
Must have worked at a startup as a founder or senior executive or at an incubator.
Experience as a mentor and/or instructor to startup founders.
Entrepreneurship experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Customer-centric oriented.
Documented experience raising early stage capital.
Demonstrated understanding of innovation, entrepreneurship and the steps to commercialize new science or technology.
Experience teaching workshops, bootcamps or courses in natural science, engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Experience in preparing pitch decks for accelerators and early stage VCs and training the presenters.
Experience in developing a network of high tech angel, pre-seed, seed and VC funding sources.
Experience mentoring or coaching faculty or students to advance their ideas toward commercialization.
