How can you make a difference?

The consultant will provide supportive analyses and evidence for UNICEF collaboration efforts with key public and private sector partners in the areas of resource mobilization for public sector and partner engagement; UNDP-UNICEF youth initiative; Business for Results initiative. The consultant will support research, scan partner priorities/intel and project pipelines in order to provide relevant background for UNICEF engagement plans.

Work Assignment

  • Pipeline mapping available on development finance institutions projects relevant to youth education, employability, skilling, and other cross-cutting/ cross-sectoral thematic areas
  • Desk research and a review conducted of public sector donor strategy and priorities (East Asia and Pacific and South Asia) relevant to the UNDP-UNICEF youth initiative partnership countries (Nepal, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia) and beyond, including relevant support to cross-cutting/ cross-sectoral thematic areas
  • Partner engagement action plan established with global/ regional strategy and priorities of donors
  • Update the 2019 Bilateral Donor Mapping Study (CRB) of public sector donor priorities in relation to the Business and Human Rights/Sustainability agenda and identify relevant donor opportunities based on the business engagement strategies of country offices and thematic focus areas of the Regional Office
  • Disseminate donor mapping findings to country offices in support of their efforts in developing donor proposals and investment cases for their work with business and on business impacts.
  • Desk research on emerging CRB issues in East Asia and Pacific including state of mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence (mHRDD) legislation, country responses to the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDD), the role of EAP in the battery value chain and the link between UNICEF programmes and lead mining, production, lead battery manufacturing and recycling with a focus on specific COs in EAP – Public sector engagement pipelines and results in UNISON processed and up to date.
  • ADB-UNICEF meeting logistics and backend support provided.

Work Schedule: Monthly basis contract, report at the end of each month.

End Product(s)

  • Completed Mapping, desk reviews and research for child right sand business and public sector partnerships per workplan;
  • Ensure UNICEF partnerships platforms, such as UNISON, are updated with notes/ background from meetings;
  • Administrative and logistics support for ADB-UNICEF consultations.

Duration of Contract: 1 August – 31 December 2022

Working Location: UNICEF EAPRO office in Bangkok/home-base

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Master’s degree in social sciences or international development from recognized academic institution. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Prior experience with international or child rights organizations an asset.
  • Proven good track record on completion of similar assignments.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Advanced ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in reports writing and editing.
  • Strong working knowledge of computer systems and applications, specifically interactive digital media.
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, to handle stressful situations effectively; and to work well under pressure and in response to changing needs.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations within a team.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
