Peace Process Support Intern (Mandarin speaking)

Position description: Inclusive Peace is looking for an intern who is fluent in Mandarin who can support research and analysis, translation of key documents and policy papers, as well as engagement and outreach to Chinese think tanks and universities with a focus on peace and security. Our ideal candidate has an academic background in conflict resolution and international relations coupled with Mandarin language skills, coupled with a curiosity to learn, and who will thrive in a remote working team in a committed team of researchers and experts to learn from and contribute to.

Background research

Contribute to the development of Inclusive Peace’s research agenda and knowledge base by:

  • Undertaking regular media monitoring, research and analysis of Mandarin language sources regarding country contexts where Inclusive Peace currently has peace process support engagements;
  • Undertake research and compile written analysis of foreign policy positions and engagements.

Translation support

  • Take the lead in translating into Mandarin key research and topical papers regarding Inclusive Peace’s comparative research and peace process support engagements.

Outreach and engagement

Support and liaise with the Inclusive Peace Team by:

  • Identifying relevant Chinese think tanks and universities with academic programmes relating to peace and security and with a particular geographic focus which aligns with Inclusive Peace’s engagements;
  • Support outreach and engagement with Chinese think tanks and universities to exchange and share information regarding Inclusive Peace’s work, and to identify concrete areas for collaboration.
  • Undertake other tasks in support of Inclusive Peace team members, as required.

Duration: 6 months (August 2022 to January/ February 2023)

Required criteria:

  • Undertaking Undergraduate or Graduate studies in peace and conflict studies or international relations/political science or similar with a focus on peace and conflict studies or a related field.
  • High degree of proficiency in English.
  • Fluency in written and reading Mandarin.
  • Proven exceptional analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated top-level writing skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion and equality both in terms of the workplace and dynamics amongst colleagues and team members, as well as in terms of the substantive work and approach of the organisation.
  • Location of remote work is ideally in Europe, Africa, or MENA or close by to be able to work in corresponding time zones, though some flexibility for candidates located in Asia Pacific.

Compensation: Inclusive Peace is open to providing a stipend for interns, depending on their circumstances (location, engagement in ongoing studies, etc).
