Detention and Escorting Services Directorate is responsible for providing Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs) and Escorting Services to enable Home Office Immigration Enforcement to perform its function of removing those not entitled to be in the UK.

Detained individuals are from a diverse background and the IRCs provide a humane, safe and secure environment, whilst the Home Office considers their case pending resolution and subsequent removal/deportation from the UK.

Immigration removal centres (IRCs), pre-departure accommodation (PDA) for families, and short-term holding facilities are provided through contracts which include the provision of security operations, management and maintenance services. Our detention facilities provide a humane, safe and secure environment, whilst the Home Office considers their case pending resolution and subsequent removal/deportation from the UK.

There are a number of competing pressures on the immigration detention estate which makes these roles even more challenging and high-profile at this time. This includes our role in the Department’s response to a significant number of migrants crossing the Channel illegally, alongside our strategic priority to increase the number of people removed from the UK when they have no right to be here. DES is currently looking to complete a series of projects to maintain sufficient capacity and ensure effective national coverage of the detention estate.

This is a very exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and varied role. The role of the Area Manager is based in an Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) run by a service provider.

The location for this position will be in Campsfield House IRC, twinned with Heathrow IRCs estate, is due to open in December 2023. In the interim it is expected that you will be working in Heathrow IRCs until Campsfield IRC opens. This will be an ideal opportunity to gain valuable experience within this environment and be in post to play a significant part of the mobilization and opening of the new site
