Design Manager – 12 Month FTC

Your role.

Your job will be to manage a small team and oversee the design of POS, signage and instore experience, supporting the delivery of store change projects that follow our design guidelines for Asda On The Move store format.

Your passion for design delivery and understanding of in store Point of Sale design and our design strategy will ensure that our customers’ engagement, loyalty, and trust continues to grow within the market by delivering the best possible in store experience.

Your role will include the creation of robust and thorough guidelines, toolkits, and templates to handover, briefing marketing teams, digital and artwork teams as well as external teams, proactively keeping guidelines live with stakeholders, updating and training out changes. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to them, along with a system for the library management.

Working in a dynamic team you will manage, drive, and develop the creative for key projects/assigned projects in line with the Asda On The Move store format change activity plan.

You will ensure that all activity is delivered on time, developed, and approved against the creative brief, guidelines, and toolkits. Challenging creative where appropriate to ensure the consistent delivery of excellence for the Asda On The Move in store journey.

You will manage and allocate work to Design Specialists and Designer working closely with key stakeholders to agreed activity timescales.

You will proactively support the Senior Design Manager performance manage Design Agencies and other external creative suppliers.

You will take responsibility for delivering a percentage of your own creative development creative projects where appropriate. The role is broadly a 50/50 split of creative delivery, and development of the Team and Processes.

Your Key Responsibilities

Creative delivery

  • Responsible for supporting the team to all deliver activity to deadlines
  • Working with internal teams to deliver against critical path, within agreed timescales.
  • Working with joint partners to clearly understand their creative requirements.
  • Briefing creative, critiquing, developing, and approving designs, presenting back to senior teams for approval.
  • Have excellent attention to ensuring design remains on brand and within Asda guidelines and toolkits.
  • Maintaining a consistent high standard of creative delivery through all projects.
  • Reviewing quotes from agencies, keeping track of spend and facilitating project orders from other teams, driving everyday low costs through right first-time principles.
  • Maintain internal system to ensure creative and guidelines are archived and kept up to date.

Development of the Team and Processes

  • Line management responsibilities of Design Specialists and Designer. Develop the team through on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and leading by example.
  • Hold regular 1-2-1’s and Quarterly Continuous Improvement Reviews with Design Specialists and Designer to drive engagement, focus and development.
  • Ensure each project is reviewed and lessons learnt to continually improve and ways of working.
  • Foster innovation to improve the design team ways of working to deliver efficiencies, cost savings etc.
  • Support the Senior Manager in setting individual and team objectives, goal setting, Key Result Area development, Personnel Development Plans for team
  • Supporting the Senior Design Manager develop design agency relationships, performance reviews, budget planning, cost matrix management, invoicing, and liaising with the Procurement team where necessary.
