OMS Principal Engineer (Blue Yonder)

This means we are going through one of the biggest retail transformation programmes that the world has ever seen! ‘Future’ is the name for the programme that will see Asda create their new operating model, independent from Walmart. Technology will undoubtedly be one of the most ambitious parts of this work.

Your Role

As a Order Management System (OMS) Principal Engineer in the eCommerce team, you will define and deliver architectural solutions, help structure technology, engineering teams and deliver technical support to eCommerce programmes and projects. This role will be key in driving the adoption of modern architecture and trends such as Microservices, DevOps and Cloud Native technology platforms.

• Work with architecture and engineering teams to define technology strategy and roadmap for the group of products, to develop a secure, stable and performant platform
• Escalation for any technical issues related to the group of products, including liaison with business / vendors as needed
• Accountable for ensuring the technical solution meets the overall platform architecture, including leading on new releases of software to ensure changes/enhancements occur in a controlled, supported and secure manner
• Manage and oversee the work of the engineering teams to develop the eCommerce platform
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standard, trends, emerging technologies and software development best practises
• Ensure technology standards and best practice are defined and maintained across eCommerce
• Embed an agile software development methodology
• Ensure scalability and robustness of the platform, identifying and driving continuous improvements through the technical teams
• Direct, coach and inspire the technical teams taking a hands-on approach as necessary e.g. conducting code reviews
• Define and drive the Quality Engineering strategy
• Partner with the Group Technical Delivery managers and Group Product Managers to drive technical vision and influence product roadmap to ensure software solutions are delivering the best possible value and opportunity to the business

Principal Engineer Skills And Experiences

• Agile methodologies, ability to develop solutions quickly and effectively
• Large scale platform transformations
• Strong experience leading the development of eCommerce Order Management and Fulfilment solutions using technologies and methodologies similar to BlueYonder OMS, Bringg Delivery, Fulfilment solutions or Microlise Transport Management
• DevOps/Automation (CI/CD) for large scale delivery
• Exposure Microsoft Azure
• Relational and NoSQL Databases
• Knowledge of Headless approaches, API gateways and Microservices
• Experience delivering projects with distributed teams
