ROLE PURPOSE

The Technical Coordinator for Gender transformation will coordinate the implementation of all gender related and girls empowerment interventions as a cross cutting issue in the SIDA Civil Society Strengthening programme. While working in close collaboration with the strategic and technical partner on Gender in this program, (WORLEC), as well as the Senior Thematic Advisers (for Save the Children), the Technical Coordinator will play a leading role in coordinating planning and implementation of partner capacity strengthening initiatives at national and district levels in gender transformative programming, girls empowerment, male engagement while including skill set in gender analysis, gender audit, gender and inclusion and reporting.

The Coordinator will build on Save the Children’s gender related policies and guidelines as well as the existing national gender related laws and policies in ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in the implementation of the programme. He/she will be responsible for the effective and efficient planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting of the gender and social inclusion activities as well as the achievement of the expected outputs of the SIDA programme.

As a programme’s focal point on gender transformative programming, the Technical Coordinator will ensure an overall quality support is provided to all partners in this SIDA CSO program. He/she will be responsible for creating opportunities for joint planning of the programme’s interventions and participate in the designing of a holistic approach to support the implementation of gender and inclusion activities of the programme. He/she will also support with documentation and dissemination of the programme’s lessons learned, case studies and best practices regarding the implementation of gender and inclusion interventions. The incumbent will further be supporting partners to address negative social and gender norms that fuel gender inequalities and violence against girls and young women. He/she will also support in mainstreaming disability inclusion in programme’s activities in close coordination with partners.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any one of the following fields: Social Sciences, Social Work, Community Development and; Gender and Development Studies.
  • Additional training on Gender transformative programming and Inclusion will be an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant and progressive work experience in similar or related roles.
  • Demonstrable skills and knowledge in child rights, children most impacted by inequality and discrimination Conflict sensitivity, Gender equality, as well as mainstreaming gender in environment and climate change.
  • Strong expertise in gender-transformative programming and a good understanding of disability and inclusion.
  • Demonstrable skills with practical experience in using child participatory approaches in programming as well as mainstreaming interventions
  • Demonstrable skills in leveraging technical support from strategic partners to promote peer to peer technical support within an integrated program with several partners.
  • Practical skills in Gender analysis and gender mainstreaming
  • Knowledge and understanding of the national gender related legal and policy frameworks.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, a collaborative and flexible manner, creativity and willingness to innovate.
  • Proven oral and written presentation skills and ability to communicate to a number of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify potential problems before they occur. Proactive in preparation and uses initiative in response.
  • Computer skills, including internet, office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills required.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with SIDA Strengthening Civil Society Programme and donor regulations and policies, or experience with framework funding.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically as required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours and work with incoming teams.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
