Southampton City Council
Allocations is a high volume work area responsible for assessing, investigating and verifying all applications for social housing in Southampton, and providing housing options advice as part of this assessment. The team is also responsible for advertising and allocating all Council and partner Housing Association vacancies, including new build and regeneration schemes.
In this role, you will use your skills and knowledge to determine the housing requirements of applicants in line with the provisions of the Allocations Policy and the authority’s related statutory obligations. This will involve case working customers who can be in very acute housing need. You will also be involved with the advertisement and allocation of vacant SCC and partner housing association properties, ensuring that the application is up to date and fully verified.
Scrutiny over who is entitled to and prioritised for social housing comes from the public, Council members and internal and external partners. We are a high profile service area so you will need to be comfortable in making accurate, timely decisions that can be subject to challenge.
To do this, you will be expected to build good working relationships with related service areas such as Housing Management, Homelessness, Adults and Children’s Services, as well as external agencies such as registered social landlords operating in Southampton.
