Principal Pharmacist – Clinical Team Manager – Band 8b

We have an exciting opportunity for a clinically experienced pharmacist to lead our ward-based clinical service and to develop the 7-day clinical pharmacy service initially to Acute Medicine at Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RUH). We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative individual that will help shape this new and exciting role. In this post, supported by senior pharmacists and technicians, you will also be encouraged to lead on service review and adopt best practice models where possible to enhance the patient’s experience.

Evidence of leadership quality, clinical experience and reflection on practice are essential to this role. We welcome applications from individuals with excellent communications skills, a patient-centred attitude, and who will encourage a culture of continued improvement.

You will work closely with the Chief Pharmacist, fellow leads and Trust stakeholders to oversee the transformation of Pharmacy inpatient services to meet the needs of our patients and the Trust, ensuring that patients receive the best pharmaceutical care right from the front door to discharge. Not confined to the boundaries of the hospital, we expect you to support workstreams across primary care as well as secondary, and collaborate with partners across BANES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) CCG.

We have developed a strong ethos to support professional development and build leadership competency. If successful you will benefit from working within a rapidly-transforming department with a firm interest in quality improvement and practice-based research. In this role you will be supported to further develop your ability as a senior leader via the NHS Leadership Academy, operational management training and the Trust’s ‘Improving Together’ program.

The RUH Pharmacy Department Has a Clear Direction Of Travel To Developing The Workforce Of The Future And Becoming More Research-active, With Recent Achievements Such As

  • Hosting the first Clinical Academic Internship post in 2021 in collaboration with the University of Bath and Health Education England
  • Creation of an operational placement for foundation pharmacists to improve wider understanding of wider NHS functions and priorities
  • Creation of cross sector clinical rotations in partnership with Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership and BSW Clinical Commissioning Group
  • Leadership development via the NHS Leadership Academy now available to all pharmacists from entry level
  • Hosting a variety of cross-system posts for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians
