The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists, and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. SPE is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with members and operations around the world.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a digital-savvy, highly motivated Marketing Manager to manage and deliver SPE’s event marketing efforts to drive visitor attendance and awareness of sponsorship and exhibition opportunities across our US and Canada events.

The successful candidate will be results driven and have the commercial acumen to optimize performance, identify new opportunities and maximize ROI using data and analytics.

This is a hands-on role and requires someone who has extensive event marketing experience, a creative flair, great project management skills and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver integrated event marketing campaigns for conferences within agreed KPIs and budget.
  • Accurate cost tracking and marketing reporting, with overall marketing budget responsibility.
  • Identify key event target audiences and ensure appropriate messaging based on value propositions is being delivered.
  • Develop activity and create marketing assets which includes copywriting, editing and proofing marketing materials across all channels including websites, email, print, social, PR, video, paid advertising, design and PPC.
  • Produce content-led marketing campaigns which consists of creating and repurposing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to enhance engagement and raise awareness.
  • Analyze the performance and success of all tracked and measurable marketing campaigns and make recommendations for future activity.
  • Sustain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, including partner organizations and design agencies. Work with key media outlets and association partners to secure valuable external promotions for events.
  • Working with Senior Manager – lead and support on SPE’s tradeshow strategy including booth design, organization, reporting and onsite support. Share input and ideas to drive marketing efforts forward including input on website improvements and the marketing budget.
  • Work closely with the sales department and align the marketing strategy to commercial objectives including the support of creating sponsorship and exhibition marketing materials and campaigns.
  • Build excellent relationships with event project teams and proactively communicate marketing progress and milestones.
  • Develop and manage relationships with international stakeholders including teams in the US, UK, Canada, KL, Dubai and Russia.
  • Supervise two Marketing Specialists. Perform line management duties including distributing and monitoring workload, personal development plans and developing team goals.

THE DESIRED TALENTS

  • At least five years of previous experience in a similar position, with a degree in marketing or similar field and line management experience.
  • Strong experience in event marketing, ideally with large scale events.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of digital (PPC, SEO, online advertising) and direct marketing.
  • Experience with Marketo, InDesign, Photoshop, LinkedIn, Canva, Google AdWords and Analytics, Feathr Remarketing, CMS or similar systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in marketing campaign planning and strategy including excellent project management skills and end to end campaign planning and within budget.
  • Experience of delivering content marketing campaigns including repurposing and writing compelling content.
  • Strong experience of using analytics and reporting to measure campaign results and action optimizations.
  • Excellent copywriter with the ability to write value-led messaging
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders at all levels and suppliers to drive desired outcome.

  • Previous experience working for an event agency or oil and gas events (highly desirable).
  • A creative thinker with the ability to innovate and always thinks outside of the box.
