Research Specialist I

The research specialist I position is a six-month term position in the Avalos Lab serving as an entry level lab technician. The lab technician will carry out technical duties in a bioengineering experimental lab such as preparing materials and reagents, and assisting lab researchers with experiments.

Responsibilities Will Include

• Preparation of lab materials and reagents: washing and autoclaving glassware and plasticware; preparing and autoclaving microbiological culture media.
• Lab cleanup and organization: help maintain lab equipment, materials, and workspaces clean, organized, and in working conditions.
• Assist other researchers with molecular biology and microbiological experiments: PCR, DNA ligations, DNA purification, cloning, strain transformation, cultivation, and curation.
• Conduct independent research in microbial bioengineering

Essential Qualifications

Qualifications

• Must have good organizational and time management skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Basic knowledge of molecular biology and microbiological techniques
• Bachelor’s degree
• 1+years experience with lab work in bioengineering research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with experimental data collection, analysis, and interpretation
