Specific Duties And Responsibilities

The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code.

The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the Department’s reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the Department’s commitment to reentry efforts while maintaining a professional demeanor.

The incumbent in this position is expected to perform other duties as necessary.

This is an Administrative Accounting position in the Accounts Payable section of the Florida Department of Corrections. Duties are achieved through the utilization of the Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR), including subsystems. This position is responsible for contributing to the daily operation of the Accounts Payable team.

  • Ensures compliance with 215.422 F.S., the Reference Guide for State Expenditures, Department procedures, and other fiscal standards for the timely payment of the Department’s legal liabilities.
  • Verifies and processes entries utilizing Florida Accounting Information Resorce (FLAIR), Budget and Accounting Reporting System (BARS), and MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP).
  • Audits invoices for proper certification and authorization to pay; reviews source documents such as invoices, purchase orders, vouchers, receipts, requisitions, or simular materials to ensure compliance with all related statutes, rules, and requirements;
  • Maintains automated files of source documents, other related documentation, and automated reports.
  • Reviews and alayzes accounting records including, but not limited to, purchase order balances, encumbrances, and payables.
  • Appends vouchers with supporting documentation per procedure. Ensures vouchers are marked approriately as ready for QA daily.
  • Monitors daily/weekly invoice and encumbrance reports and takes appropriate action.
  • Works with section lead and supervisor to ensure work is completed in an effective manner that facilitates meeting the objectives and measures of the section.
  • Responds to all inquiries accurately and timely.
  • Assists with the development of accounting policies, standards, and procedures. Assists in on-boarding new staff or new policies and/or procedures.
  • Completes all agency required trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as required, including special projects.

  • Knowledge of DC rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use automated accounting systems, personal computers, and general office equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in accounting, auditing or in computer systems analysis which involves accounting or auditing systems.
