Position Summary

The Monmouth Ocean Foundation for Children (MOFFC) in partnership with Brookdale Community College is seeking an innovative, dynamic, motivated leader to serve as the Director for the Achieve Academy for Adults with Autism (Achieve Academy) program. This individual will work collaboratively with the MOFFC and Achieve Academy Board of Trustees and its designees to oversee the development of an adult day program and lead organization activities that includes, but are not limited to: fundraising, grant writing, community outreach, marketing/promotion, staffing, policy development, fiscal management.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management

     

  • Provide supervision and oversight in the development, management, and evaluation of effective procedures for the operation of the program that upholds our commitment to evidence-based procedures, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) philosophy, life skills training, and job training/coaching that are also in alignment with the Achieve Academy’s mission and vision statement and long-term strategic plan.
  • Ensure procedures that establish a safe and well-organized environment, ongoing facility maintenance and aesthetics, program evaluation and innovation, personnel management, office operations, and risk management/emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and licensing and regulatory agencies’ best practice policies.
  • Review and respond to legal or regulatory concerns or requests regarding services.
  • Oversee the completion of all required school and/or organization reports and documentation.
  • Engage in a cycle of continuous quality improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Director to select and evaluate the implementation of evidence-informed programs suitable for the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) population.
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Director to develop, manage, and evaluate the design and implementation of developmentally appropriate and culturally competent curriculum, assessments, therapeutic methods, and instructional technologies to address the range of core and associated needs.
  • Ensure and supervise coordination with program staff, contact with parent, legal guardians and approved funding agencies to ensure that the above are kept apprised of all critical aspects of the program.
  • Create a work atmosphere that emphasizes collective team performance and demonstrates the Achieve Academy’s core competencies and values.
  • Develop or propose amendments or changes to Achieve Academy’s Policies and Procedures to be implemented in the program as the need arises.

Staff Management

  • Provide leadership and oversight for staffing.   Manage, evaluate, and supervise school staff.
  • Implement effective procedures for hiring, training, and ongoing performance evaluations.
  • Provide oversight in the development, management, and evaluation of systems to ensure staff proficiency in implementing effective ABA- based educational and clinical methods, implementation of therapies and services, as well as life skills and job/vocational training.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Trustees and the Program Director, establish staffing requirements for recruitment and develop selection process to ensure appropriate placement of personnel.
  • Evaluate performance and competency of staff within required time frames and according to set standards within a framework of support, coaching, guidance, and encouragement.
  • Develop understanding of and integration of operational excellence at all employee levels.

Financial Management

  • Oversee funding opportunities through grants and foundations including grant relationship management.
  • In collaboration with the Achieve Academy, MOFFC and school leadership, develop and manage the annual budget for the school.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and approve expenses.

Relationship Building

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners to secure funding, resources, and other support for the program and its clients.
  • Manage all aspects of the Academy’s relationship with the College.
  • Develop and maintain good rapport with funding agencies, keeping them informed of critical concerns in a timely manner in accordance with regulations promulgated by the appropriate agency.

Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate preferred; Masters’ degree required in in public administration, business administration, education, non-profit management, social work, human services or other related field.
  • High levels of strategic thinking and planning with the ability to convey the vision and mission of the Achieve Academy to a variety of stakeholders and partners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with donors, clients, families, community partners, staff and the overall Academy community.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, donor relations and a proven understanding of the funding community.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding differentiated revenue streams for nonprofits, including grants, sponsorships, etc., and the development of fiscal plans/budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing community partnerships with individuals or organizations who support the advancement of the Academy’s mission.
  • Experience working with a Board of Trustees/Directors.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience working with persons with autism (preferred), developmental disabilities, or similar populations.
  • Demonstrated experience with development, fundraising, and community outreach.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of staff.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or specialized adult populations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and Ocean County a plus.

Supervision Received

Works under goals and guidelines set by the Achieve Academy and/or MOFFC Board of Trustees. Annual performance review and regular activity appraisals are conducted by the Achieve Academy and/or MOFFC Board of Trustees and submitted to the Dean, CPS for approval and processing. The incumbent performs all activities independent of immediate direction or supervision.

Supervision Exercised

Provide leadership and oversight for staff in the program.

Budget/Revenue Responsibility

Has program budget responsibility. 

Internal/External Contacts

Key contact to Brookdale Community College and local community, state and national agencies and organizations. Collaborate with Program Director, Achieve Academy and MOFFC Board of Trustees, and school leadership.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are generally favorable. Occasional evening and weekend work and local travel maybe required. Nights and weekends required as needed.
