Patient Accounts Representative

This position is responsible for the accuracy of patient insurance and demographic data within the Meditech Billings and Accounts Receivable module, to ensure timely and accurate billing of various inpatient and outpatient accounts. This position is also responsible for sending invoices and claim forms to patients, as well as various third party agencies, once charges have been processed to accounts. The successful candidate will handle phone, mail, and in-person communication with patients, various HHS departments, and various external third party insurance companies in collection of outstanding accounts. He/she will ensure all supplementary documentation is supplied to account payers in accordance with HHS confidentiality policies. This can include patient demographic data, copies of HHS authorization forms, procedural diagnostic information, as well as patient immigration documentation. Duties also include data entry, review, and edits to patient accounts where applicable and approved by the Revenue Coordinator. He/she will be responsible for assignment of accounts to collection agencies where appropriate, and preparation of outstanding account explanations in monthly Aged Trial Balance Review with Revenue Coordinator. He/she will be responsible for completing a related business task if required to do so by the Revenue Coordinator and will be Required to backfill vacation/sick time for any Accounts Receivable position, if required. He/she will perform other duties as assigned.

  • Post secondary Degree or Diploma in Business or relevant experience
  • Two to three years of related experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Meditech, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office -Excel, Word, Exchange/Outlook
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MIS Guidelines
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

Unit Summary

Financial Services is responsible for Corporate Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Treasury and Capital. The unit is responsible for patient and non-patient receivables along with ensuring flow through of the detailed resulting transactions to the appropriate cost balance/balance sheet accounts, which in turn are used to make operational, financial and managerial decisions. In addition, the monitoring of cash flow and the administration of the call for capital are also part of the mandate of the unit.
