About Our Client

Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) have an exciting opportunity to join our team as our Active Ageing Project Officer. This countywide role will is required following growth and success in our Active Ageing work within Somerset. You will have a particular focus on the smooth running of our operational aspects of this work. The post holder will also lead on our Love to Pedal and Walk your Way programmes, working with individuals and partners to develop and evaluate these.

The role will look to amplify and increase the messages and interventions around the beneficial effects of physical activity on many long-term conditions in our older population, though delivering the We Are Undefeatable campaign in Somerset. Working with primary care, adult social care and other key charities and organisations to embed physical activity into the various health systems in Somerset, we hope to see increased awareness about the benefits of moving more and sitting less as well as increased activity levels of older people across the county.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with the knowledge and passion of working with this demographic and the organisations that they depend upon and interact with.

Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities and Key Duties of the Job

  • To lead and manage the operational delivery of various schemes aimed at improving the quality of

older people’s lives through being more physically active. This will include the promotion, operational

and process management of the Love to Pedal scheme as well as other programmes.

  • To work with the statutory, commercial and voluntary sector to identify opportunities to embed

various projects aimed at older people into services, co-ordinating and evaluating successes and

challenges, sharing learning internally and externally with partners.

  • To continue to develop improvements to the projects within the active ageing portfolio together with

developing new products and resources where applicable with older people being at the centre of

these developments.

  • Assist the Active Ageing Physical Activity Manager with embedding physical activity and functional

fitness into everyday life for older people through building strong partnerships across the county with

key organisations related to older people right across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

  • Provide information and guidance to individuals or organisations around what opportunities SASP

has available that may can be shared to help motivate and support older adult physical activity

participation at home and outside across Somerset.

Active Ageing Project Officer

  • Assist the Active Ageing Physical Activity Manager with identifying opportunities to upskill

workforces around the move more and live longer better messages, co-ordinating and delivering

training workshops across Somerset where required.

  • Support the Active Ageing Physical Activity Manager in developing, implementing and monitoring

projects for the long-term health conditions priority group as part of Sport England’s Together Fund

to help address inequalities for this group.

  • Assist the Active Ageing Physical Activity Manager and Communications Team with developing a

variety of communication channels including the creation of e-newsletters, social media posts,

ambassador stories, whilst ensuring the needs, barriers and conduits to physical activity

conversations, such as children and grandchildren are considered.

  • Drive collaborative and innovative approaches that inspire and enable communities across

Somerset to build physical activity into their lives assisting with the work to lay a foundation for a

more sustainable, healthy and active Somerset of the future.

  • To proactively communicate and share impact, evaluation and learning around active ageing

through local channels and national networks so that successful intervention and change can be

adopted, challenged and improved.

  • Undertake regular focus groups with relevant audiences, including carers where appropriate, to

provide insight into key activation measures and / or measurement of physical activity interventions.

  • Take an insight led approach to understanding how to improve different products designed to

increase physical activity and improve the quality of life for older adults.

  • Act as a source of professional information and guidance to help older adults feel confident and

secure around participating in being more active.

  • Assist the Active Ageing Physical Activity Manager to manage funding from funding partners,

including evaluation and reporting mechanisms as well as project planning and delivery.

  • To represent SASP on committees and groups within the county, regionally and nationally where

appropriate.

  • Undertake any other duties and participate in projects commensurate with the nature and grading of

this post or at the direction of the line manager.
