Electoral Services Officer (ESO)/Senior Electoral Services Officer (SESO)

Starting salary between £24684 and £31203 per annum depending on level

Full Time – 37 hours per week

Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn

We have an exciting opportunity for you as an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our small, dedicated, busy Electoral Services team. We are a high profile and respected service responsible for delivering all statutory electoral processes including elections, electoral registration and the publication and distribution of the electoral register.

You will provide support to the Electoral Services Manager in the strategic planning, organisation and operational delivery of all elections and referendums, as well as maintaining the register of electors. As part of the senior role, you will act as a Deputy Returning Officer as needed.

If you join us as an ESO we will provide the support and experience for you to develop into the senior role, or if you already have the qualifications and experience, we would love you to join our team as a SESO.

To fulfil this role effectively you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • As an ESO, you will have significant experience in a busy office environment and the ability to understand and keep up to date with electoral legislation and regulations. As a SESO, you will have extensive working knowledge of the legislative frameworks surrounding elections and Electoral Registration.
  • As a SESO, completion of the AEA Foundation Course and AEA Certificate or if employed as the ESO be prepared to undertake these qualifications to develop.
  • Experience of administering national and local elections and for the Senior Officer, to have a good working knowledge of Electoral Management Systems, preferably Xpress.
  • Excellent ICT skills with the ability to use and develop computerised electoral systems
  • Excellent communication skills with high levels of political sensitivity and neutrality
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver high quality work within strict deadlines.
  • An adaptable approach to the role and hours.

Prior to busy election periods you must be able to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends to meet demanding deadlines. You must also have a full driving licence and access to a car for travel around the Borough.
