Training of Helpers on Individual (Problem Management Plus)
Background Information:

Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is an independent international solidarity Organisation working in situations of poverty, exclusion, conflict and disaster. HI works alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable people to meet their essential needs and improve their living conditions and undertakes to promote their dignity and fundamental rights.
HI Operations in Jordan
In Jordan, HI has been actively engaged in various initiatives aimed at supporting persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. The organization focuses on providing multi-disciplinary rehabilitation services that include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and psychosocial support. HI collaborates with local partners, community centers, and other stakeholders to ensure the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.
HI collaborates with local partners and community centers to enhance their capacity in delivering quality psychosocial support as part of their multi-disciplinary rehabilitation services. As part of this effort, HI seeks a qualified trainer to conduct a six-day training of helpers on individual Problem Management Plus (PM+). This training will be delivered in Arabic and targets helpers with a basic background in mental health and psychosocial support.
Problem Management Plus (PM+)
Problem Management Plus (PM+) is an innovative, scalable, evidence-based, brief, and low-intensity psychological intervention designed to equip adults with the skills to manage practical problems, as well as associated common mental health issues. PM+ employs four key strategies: problem-solving counseling, stress management, behavioral activation, and strengthening social support. These strategies aim to improve persons’ overall well-being and ability to cope with everyday challenges.
Training Objectives:
The primary objective of the training is to equip helpers with essential skills and knowledge to effectively facilitate individual PM+ sessions and to ensure proficiency in basic helping skills while delivering PM+. This includes understanding the PM+ protocol, developing basic helping skills, mastering facilitation techniques, and learning how to adapt PM+ interventions to the specific cultural context. Follow-up supervisory sessions are intended to consolidate helpers’ skills and uphold the quality standards of the intervention.
Scope of Work:
The trainer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Training Preparation
- Develop a detailed training agenda and materials tailored to the target audience and local context.
- Prepare training materials in Arabic, including handouts, presentations, and practical exercises.
- Create pre- and post-training multiple choice questions and competency assessment forms.
- Share the reading tools with participants prior to the training
- Coordinate with HI’s Project Manager to ensure all logistical arrangements are in place.
- Training Delivery
- Conduct a comprehensive training on Individual PM+ in Arabic over six days.
- Use interactive training methods such as case presentations, group discussions, role-plays and video demonstrations.
- Implement pre- and post-tests and competency assessment forms to evaluate learning outcomes.
- Post-Training Reporting
- Provide a detailed training report with analysis of pre- and post- assessment results, participant feedback, and recommendations for further training needs.
- Supervision of Helpers
- Set a supervision plan to conduct bi-weekly or monthly group supervision sessions for helpers post-training
- Candidate’s Characteristics
- Background in MHPSS field with a TOT certificate on Individual PM+.
- Ensure that after the training, the helpers are able to return to the field and deliver the PM+ intervention with the associated supervision protocol.
Deliverables:
- Develop a clear training agenda, prepare the PM+ training and adapt it to the local context.
- Deliver the training in Arabic using different appropriate training techniques.
- Prepare a final report including the competency assessment results and participant feedback.
- Share all training materials with HI
- Create a supervision plan to deliver group supervision sessions for helpers.
Location, Dates, and Duration
The training will be held in Amman, Jordan. The exact dates will be determined, with the training period expected to fall between August and September. The training program will span six days.
Target Population
Approximately a total of 14 trainees will attend. This includes 3 staff members from HI and 12 persons from local community centers with basic experience in MHPSS.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in psychology, psychiatry, mental health or a relevant field
- Certified Trainer of Trainers (TOT) in individual PM+, preferably from the World Health Organization (WHO)
- Experience in training helpers on PM+ and conducting follow-up supervision
- Experience in working with culturally sensitive MHPSS interventions
- Strong facilitation skills and proficiency in Arabic
- Experience working with persons with disabilities is an advantage
