Job Description

Background

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP: we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.

UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

Labour exploitation and human trafficking – particularly affecting vulnerable migrants – are prevalent across Asia and the Pacific. While efforts to address such exploitation within these sectors have developed over recent years, gaps exist in understandings of labour mobility and exploitation, as well as in frameworks for ensuring the enforcement of labour standards and proper mechanisms for the identification, referral, and (re)integration of victims of forced labour and human trafficking.

To address these gaps UNDP – positioned as it is with long-established relationship with regional stakeholders – works with partners to strengthen policy and practice through the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT) Process for victims of trafficking/forced labour and vulnerable migrants. UNDP also conducts research on migration and development, exploring the drivers, outcomes and dynamics of labour migration and trafficking among migrant workers in relation to cross-cutting themes such as gender, human rights, governance, and climate change.

Work on trafficking forms part of UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub Human Mobility Team’s efforts to strengthening multi-stakeholder responses to ensure that the opportunities of migration for driving development are harnessed and the challenges of forced migration/displacement addressed.

The incumbent will report directly to UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub, Migrant Protection and Development Specialist.

This is a part time position. The incumbent will be fulfilling the outlined duties in the TOR in 3 days per week. Arrangements on working schedule and responsibilities will be agreed between the incumbent and supervisor.

Regular updates through meetings will be provided by the incumbent and in frequent communications, including weekly updates and monthly reports.

The incumbent will work in close collaboration with National Project Officers/Coordinator in project countries, as well as implementing partners at the regional level as appropriate.
