About FIG Somalia Programme

Funded by the European Union, FIG is a component of the Inclusive Local and Economic Development (ILED) program, whose objective is to revitalize and expand the local economy with a focus on livelihood enhancement, job creation, and broad-based inclusive growth for Somali women, youth and producers through:

  • Designing and offering appropriate and sustainable financial products and services to clients through Somali Financial Institutions (FI) and ensuring targeted clients are growing and becoming more bankable.
  • Catalyzing sustainable increase in lending to economic actors in Somalia, especially youth, women, and producers.
  • Building the capacity of the partner financial institutions to increasingly provide appropriate financial services for a wider scope of customers living in urban centers, and rural and decentralized areas in Somalia.
  • Building the capacity of targeted end clients to profitably use the financing for business growth**.**

This role will report to the Programme Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial oversight of the program at all stages, including timely preparation of budgets and financial reports.
  • Support in ensuring the accuracy of postings that align with the program design and budgets.
  • Assist the Head of Finance in preparing accurate and reasonable institutional budgets and budget narratives consistent with the institutional strategy and adhering to donor and AECF policies.
  • Track, report, and consolidate monthly program expenses, burn rates, and cash received from donors.
  • Prepare consolidated program financial reports based on the contract obligation schedules.
  • Ensure program audits are conducted on time, and audit findings are resolved adequately.
  • Collaborate with program staff and hosting agency to plan and arrange travel arrangements, ensuring smooth logistics for staff during field assignments.
  • Assist in raising Purchase Requests (PRs) for program-related procurement needs by supporting program staff in initiating and processing PRs, ensuring accurate documentation and timely procurement of required resources.
  • Plan and coordinate logistics for field visits, ensuring proper scheduling, transportation, and survey equipment to successfully conduct partner MFIs and end-client surveys.
  • Assist in managing program budgets, tracking expenses, and maintaining accurate financial records to ensure effective resource allocation and financial compliance.
  • Gather and analyze data to create comprehensive reports and visually engaging presentations that effectively communicate program progress and outcomes.
  • Support the management of program data and information systems, ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to data management protocols.
  • Facilitate the reimbursement process for staff travel and program-related expenses. Collect and review expense claims, ensure compliance with reimbursement policies, and facilitate timely reimbursement processing for staff travel and program-related expenditures.

Suitable candidates should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills necessary for effective interaction.
  • Ability to analyze information and propose valuable solutions.
  • Demonstrates discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Experience working with EU-funded projects or projects funded by other donors is highly desirable, with familiarity with requirements and compliance standards.
  • Fluent in Somali and English for effective communication is required.
