Introduction

The world’s largest fossil fuel producers are already on track to produce more than twice the amount of coal, oil and gas than can ever be burned if we are to hit our climate targets. The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative champions a new international mechanism to complement the Paris Agreement, one that would hold governments accountable for their fossil fuel production plans in an effort to advance a just transition.

The Position

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is hiring a skilled and dedicated Digital Campaigner who can help us scale mass public engagement and mobilisation of citizens calling for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty around the world. The Digital Campaigner will join the fast-growing International Support Team for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative. They will work closely with the Campaigns, Communications and Development to scale the digital advocacy, web development, list acquisition, email communications, digital fundraising and associated tools required to support hundreds of thousands of people on every continent to advocate for their governments to support the negotiation of a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

This position is full-time, exempt, and salaried. Salary is calculated based on location and experience of the successful candidate. The salary range is 40-55,000 USD for a campaigner, and 50-65,000 USD for a Senior Campaigner with over 3 years of campaigning experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a digital campaign strategy to mobilise hundreds of thousands of people globally (if not millions) to advocate for negotiation of a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty

  • Scale domestic and regional digital campaigns in target countries in coordination with Regional Teams, partners and our network of allies, including managing translation of digital tools and communications

  • Identify and launch creative and strategic digital advocacy tactics that can help influence key decision makers and build further political support for the Fossil Fuel Treaty

  • In collaboration with the Communications Team and Tech Manager optimise our website, CRM and all digital tools to provide a streamlined user experience for individuals to join the Treaty campaign

  • Manage list acquisition, segmentation and email engagement including oversight of an email calendar, reactive blasts and an automated email welcome series to grow and engage a global supporter list of individuals calling for a Fossil Fuel Treaty

  • Support virtual engagement in major moments and events, expanding our engagement to be more global around major UN Conferences and political meetings

  • Develop and maintain a suite of digital advocacy tools that can support individuals to go beyond endorsing the campaign to advocating for policymakers to support the Treaty proposal

  • In coordination with the Development Director, scale a new digital fundraising program including acquisition and retention of recurring donors supporting our work

  • Support data analysis of digital campaign quantitative performance to help further increase our impact

  • Where required, support the Campaigns, Operations and Communications teams with other digital tactics such as advertising or social media content

    Experience and attributes:

    Required:

  • A deep passion for climate justice and supporting an equitable transition to a world without coal, oil or gas.

  • At least 2-5 years of experience in digital campaigning and/or email marketing

  • Experience in digital campaign communications including email writing, website content production, social media marketing

  • Experience in digital fundraising including donor acquisition and retention

  • Commitment to contributing to an anti-racist, inclusive organisational culture.

  • Ability to work irregular hours with a remote and virtual global team

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong initiative, and motivation

  • Fluency in English is required.

Desired:

  • Fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic and other languages is highly desired.
  • Experience in CRM management including list acquisition, engagement
  • Experience in web development including fluency in HTML and CSS
  • Experience in maintaining and developing digital advocacy tools including through platforms such as DoGooder
  • Experience with mobile and SMS campaigning
  • Graphic design skills including with Canva
  • Experience with digital campaign methodologies in a diverse range of regions, particularly outside Europe and North America
  • Experience working in the Global South
