Position Summary
The production planner/buyer is responsible for planning and managing production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and best utilize the company’s productive capacity as well as managing inventory levels.
Essential Functions
- Acts on order releases action and exception messages from the company system.
- Plans and manages production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and best utilize the company’s productive capacity.
- Analyzes sales order releases concerning capacity planning and material requirements.
- Manages inventory levels, schedules, and availability of a selected item, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules. Completes shipping information and delivery date input during sale order reviews.
- Answer termination or cancellation requests
- Orders floor stock with shelf life material for production.
- Reviews work in process material sweeps from the production floor.
- Receives and reviews sales orders against current requirements and works using the material requirement planning report.
- Releases purchase orders for production material and floor stock items
- Interfaces with manufacturing personnel, the purchasing department, and supervisors on material status and production planning issues.
- Plans truck deliveries and product transportation
Competencies
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize and establish targets to meet deadlines
- Computer Skills: Knowledge and understanding of the use of Microsoft Office; intermediate to advanced abilities with Microsoft Excel. Knowledge and use of SAP
- Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with both internal departmental members and external Musashi coworkers
- Customer Service: Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Technical Skills: General understanding of their positional roles and responsibilities and the ability to perform their assigned tasks
- Financial Understanding: The ability to understand the financial impact business decisions make on the organization
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify root cause and countermeasures
- Technical Skills: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Purchasing practices, policies, and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in both a professional office environment as well as on the manufacturing floor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Requirements
This role’s physical requirements include the ability to sit and stand for long periods to perform daily tasks, bend, twist and stoop occasionally. They frequently lift materials to 25 pounds, sometimes to 50 pounds, and rarely raise materials over 50 pounds.
This role also requires entry into our production floor and requires the ability to follow all required safety protocols.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands or fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Position Type
This is a full-time position to be performed at the physical location of Musashi Auto Parts- Michigan, Inc., and it’s designated travel locations as required for training and other legitimate business needs.
Travel
This position may require the associate to travel for outside training and seminars.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Four years of experience
