Position Title: Relief Youth Worker; Bray Youth Service

The Employer

Location: Bray Youth Service

Work Schedule: You will be placed on a Relief Panel and may on occasion be asked to provide cover for short or longer term planned absence such as covering annual leave, training, sick leave or unexpected absence. Crosscare will endeavour to give as much notice as possible prior to contacting you for work.

Contract: 2 years

Salary: €14.85 per hour

Reporting to: Youth Service Manager

The Role

Candidates will provide suitable youth work interventions and programmes to facilitate personal development, promote pro social behaviour and improve long term prospects for young people. They will cover groups in different centres with a youth worker and complete tasks as required (by the Youth Service Project Workers and by Manager/Team Leader).

General Responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with young people and provide a service to them.
  • To work effectively as part of a team with the different youth workers in each area and being open to reasonable requests from Youth Workers/Youth Service Manager in order to ensure effective working relationships.
  • To work within the policies of Crosscare and the standard operating procedures of the project.
  • To engage young people in a youth work process.
  • To work with the youth worker to prepare for workshops & clean up afterwards.
  • To evaluate workshops/activities with the youth worker.
  • To work within the ethos and values of Crosscare.
  • To attend training relevant to the work.
  • To attend supervision with an assigned staff member.
  • To carry out any other duties assigned by your line manager.

Educational

Qualification/Skills Required:

  • Be in possession of/ be midway working towards a relevant 3rd Level qualification in Youth Work or equivalent.
  • Some experience of working with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, ideally within a youth work setting.

Personal Skills

  • A commitment to social justice and to treating people with dignity and respect.
  • An understanding of the principles of teamwork and the ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Enjoys working with young people.
  • Excellent communication skills; open-minded, approachable, friendly, and non-threatening.
  • Creative, flexible in responding to the needs of young people.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Facilitation and group work skills
  • Empathy and understanding.
  • Resilient a can-do attitude.

Other

  • Have an understanding of the work of Crosscare’s Youth Services.
  • Have an understanding of the National Policy Framework for Youth Work, in particular The Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures Policy Framework and the National Quality Standards Framework (NQSF).
